If the Shoe Fits: Two Sisters Launch Shoe Site For All Sizes

Why should Cinderella be the only one to rejoice when the slipper fits?

Talani Rabb-Diggs and her sister, Celeste Burton, CEOs of the new shoe company and website, Montaege.com, waved their manufacturing wand to come to the rescue of women all across the land who wear just the right shoe size: size 9 1/2-13.

This is not a fairy tale: some sisters really are doing it for themselves. Take Rabb-Diggs and Burton, who have an awful lot in common: Both are tall, fashionable married mothers and world class shoe shoppers who got so fed up with sales clerks around the globe spouting these not-so-magic words every time either zoned in on the footwear of their desires -- "Sorry, but we don't have those in your size" -- that they decided to take matters into their own business hands last year by founding Montaege.

Montaege's mission? To offer the growing number of women around the globe who wear shoe sizes 9 1/2-13 an exquisite line of footwear for every occasion at guilt-free prices.

"Right from conception in 2007, we had a clear-cut agenda for our company. Aside from making sure we manufactured high-quality footwear at an excellent price point, we also made a conscious decision to offer footwear from sandals to boots that incorporated both classic and trendy styles in the collection,'' said Rabb-Diggs, who was recently married to Bobby Diggs, better known by his stage name RZA, a rapper and producer for Wu-Tang Clan.

Women fiending for footwear without leaving their house can log onto the sisters' website and check out their fashionable offerings, which range in price from $75 to $200. But those who like to strut and sashay in a pair of shoes before they plunk down their hard-earned money need not worry: as we cyber-speak, the road to retail is being paved.

"We began this venture in an innovative fashion. Most shoe manufacturers begin by launching their wholesale collection, which is then unveiled and shown to retail buyers via the normal shoe trade show channels," said Burton, Montaege's CEO and president responsible for the firm's marketing, accounting and inventory management. "But we did our business plan in reverse. Our website went up first, and now we've hired sales reps across the country responsible for placing our shoes at the right retail outlets, from department stores to shoe boutiques in all the major cities.''

Rabb-Diggs, who spent 13 years as a model with the Ford Model Agency, lends her fashionable expertise in the designing process of the collection. "We got very lucky. Although our shoes are manufactured in Mexico, Pedro, our main designer, previously worked for 25 years for the prestigious shoe company, Stuart Weitzman. As a result, we have the best of both worlds: we are able to offer affordable prices but our lasts were made in Spain using the same technology as Weitzman. This combination is what enables us to offer optimum comfortable fit, superior quality shoes at an affordable price -- and both cutting edge and classic styles.''

The diversity of the Montaege footwear collections is reflected in both Burton and Rabb-Digg's individual styles. The Seasonal Collection will offer shoes that reflect the latest trends.

"Right now, metallic leather, encrusted sandals and gladiator styles are hot in footwear,'' said Rabb-Diggs. Enter the Jasmine Evening sandal ($98), a sexy, strappy bronze leather platform sandal. The Classic Collection reflects the corporate chic that embodies Burton's individual style. For example, the Celeste Dorsay Pump ($85), is a feminine black leather pump with an ankle strap.

"I guess you could say," said Rabb-Diggs, "both of the collections will always offer the best of both of our individual styles."

Adds Burton, "We're different, but we both love the same thing: beautiful shoes that fit -- like most women."
