Iman, CEO of IMAN Cosmetics, has entered the fashion game with the launch of IMAN's GLOBAL CHIC Collection, an accessories line done exclusively for HSN. Here, she shares the inspiration behind each item and provides tips on how you can rock her collection like a global star.

It's a cold rainy afternoon in mid-town Manhattan and Iman, CEO of IMAN Cosmetics, is standing sparkling bright like a New Year's celebration. She wears a gold sequined Tory Burch cardigan that covers an American Apparel white tee tucked inside Earnest Sewn boot-cut jeans.
She stands poised and polished in four-inch Sergio Rossi strappy platforms. Blue smoky shadows frame her eyes, a hint of gold illuminates her brow-bone and her cheeks and lips are kissed with a bronze hue.
Not the exact picture of a mogul.
But then again, Iman, wife of rock star David Bowie, and mother of two, is no typical businesswoman.
The makeup maven who dared to place the beauty of women of color on a high pedestal with formulations that are not only spot-on in regards to complementing the subtle shades of light, medium and deep complexions, but are also technologically sound, is ready to bet on another chance: That women everywhere would want a piece of her personal style.
And why wouldn't they? As a card-carrying member of the fashion world's gliterrati, and the longtime muse of designers such as Yves St. Laurent, Versace, Donna Karan and Calvin Klein, certainly Iman is more than qualified to place her diamond-laced fingers into the fashion game.
Gathered today to share this new venture -- IMAN'S GLOBAL CHIC -- an accessories line inspired by her real-life gems done exclusively for HSN, and most retailing for between $49.95 and $129.95, the Somalian icon glows while sharing the intimate stories of each item's inspiration.
Her excitement is contagious. This isn't a line pulled out of nowhere. It has history. Iman and David Bowie's history.
All items are available on HSN.com, starting on Saturday, December 15.
Tune-in to HSN on Saturday December 15th at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, December 16 at 9 a.m. and at 6 p.m. to see Iman and more of her GLOBAL CHIC collection.

While it is absolutely true that this photo of Iman has been retouched, I saw Iman in person at a function earlier this year, and she is still truly beautiful. Of course in person, there were a couple of rings around the neck and a couple of fine smile lines, but none of this detracted from her phenomenal beauty. I know lots of every-day-non-celebrity African-American women who look amazing in their fifties, sixties and beyond. Oprah had a 72 year old black woman on her show, who made everyone in the audience (and Oprah) stare in disbelief. This woman was youthful, vibrant and beautiful. As we reach different age milestones in our lives, our beauty changes, but we are beautiful nontheless. As far as commercial phtotographs are concerned, unless you protest vigorously, most publications automatically re-touch photographs.

ATTENTION! HOPEFULLY THIS POST WILL RECEIVE A COMFIRMATION.
To all my black sisters (Take notice: paste and pass this message along to as many women in the Black Voices Boards),
Several others and I have noticed that Black Voices (BV’s) is not capable of addressing the issues that truly concern the black community. Suffice to say, many of the issues are not conducive to bettering us as a people. We have viewed several of the boards and found a disturbing trend. Whenever positive and/or articulate comments are made about black people, many of those comments--for some reason or another--are not posted, or the posters “confirmations” don’t come through. We have also noticed that on those rare occasions, when positive comments are made about black women, BV’s has a tendency to counteract with something negative.
For example, just this week, when constructive comments were made about a former supermodel, immediately BV’s took action by putting several popular black women photos, and a few black men who allegedly had plastic surgery (many who are in the entertainment industry), on the main board (http://www.blackvoices.com/life-style/black-health/black-celebrity-plastic-surgery-pictures). Of course, they did place a Latino (Jenny Lopez) into the group. It seems for every positive that is mentioned, BV’s reveals a negative. Granted, there are various positive topics on BV’s, but that’s not enough to override the blatant obvious. Essentially, it’s like giving an expensive gift, but then taking it back and replacing it with a gift of lesser value.
This kind of happening isn’t happenstance. Negative subliminal messages are designed to subtly send messages that damage the psyche, as well as the will and hope of a people.
Another thing we have also observed on the BV’s boards, several of the issues are not in a constructive course toward making things better for black people as a whole, but rather on the destructive. The BV’s site is inundated with issues that THEY (BV’s) want us to address. They constantly shove interracial dating/relationships into our faces, which is normally from the perspective of putting the white women into the forefront of being most desired, which, in turn, will automatically put the black women on the defensive. This is noticed through book topics “Why Black Men Love White Women,” for example.
IMHO, this is purposely done to psychologically reinforce the negative stereotype that black women are somehow lacking attractiveness and social appeal, even by their black counterparts; dare I say, if not by the general opposite sex as a whole.
Here’s a suggestion. Since the subject of black men loving white women was directed to black men, then we’ll leave it for them to enjoy and discuss with the women they supposedly “love.” After all, many of the men have expressed their interests in dating across the board (Asians, Whites, Latinos, etc.), and several--but not all--didn’t hold the black women in high regard. Let us not stand in the black men's way, less we be trampled on in their pursuit of obtaining what they believe to be better.
Then, to increase our self-hatred of one another, BV’s gives us topics like, “Ten Women We Love to Hate” (http://www.blackvoices.com/life-style/black-style-beauty/black-women-celebrity-photos-hated). And we can even vote who we hate the most. Notice, ALL of the women are women of color!
One thing is certain, we have options. WE DON’T HAVE TO LISTEN OR ACCEPT THE NEGATIVE MESSAGES THROWN AT US. IF BV’S COVERT AGENDA IS TO HUMILIATE AND DEVALUE THE BLACK WOMEN--AS THEY HAVE DEMONSTRATED TIME AND TIME AGAIN--THEN LET THEM DO IT WITHOUT OUR PARTICIPATION IN OUR OWN HANGING!
That is why many of us are leaving BV’s. No, we are not boycotting--those that wish to stay will do so. We are simply seeking other websites that will reflect OUR wants and respect OUR opinions in the matter of black woman as a whole. And I, personally, refuse to give AOL my money for the privilege of being annoyed by BV’s on a consistent basis.
I give my sincerest apologies for the toes we have stepped on, but, when it’s time to move on . . . .
We are looking into several sites. There is one by the top radio host Tom Joyner: http://www.blackamericaweb.com/. I don’t know much about the following site, but it has been suggested:http://media.myfoxdc.com/myvoice/.
Just watching out for our best interest.
