It's been almost ten years since the Man Formerly Known As Diddy launched the Sean John clothing line, and five since his last runway show, so the anticipation for his Fall 2008 show presented last Friday was quite befitting.
Combs stands to again even more recognition after delivering a collection that paid homage to those designers who paved the way for him: Icons Willi Smith, Patrick Kelly, Byron Lars, Stephen Burrows, Karl Kani, Patrick Robinson and Tracy Reese were all acknowledged. "I celebate the path they carved or me, this couldn't have happened without them" said Combs. Nice.

And how brilliant of him to also have former model/model agent Bethann Hardison (who reps Tyson Beckford, who closed the Sean John show as the last model) as casting consultant not long after her bi-annual conference that addresed the lack of Black models on the runway!?
We have to give it to him, he didn't talk about it, he did the damn thing with all black models in the show.
As for the collection itself, there were many cropped jackets reminiscent of those worn by the hotel bellboy except these versions were luxe in leather, sharkskin and wool paired with slim, fitted trousers. There was certainly a strong European influence. It was quite a departure for the traditional Sean John customer.
The Sean John regular however need not fret, there were many high style offerings for him: fur-trims, sweaters with fur fronts, 3/4 coats in grey, eggplant suede and other rich, dark tones is where the strength lied in the lineup.
Combs later told us his muse is "a young king in Harlem in the year 2020 who is so swagged out, you can find him jumping out of a droptop Maybach. I've evolved aesthetically as a designer, so it's about fine tailoring, a closer fit to the body was very important."
Call it urban luxury remixed.

Most of you guys are purely retarded, instead of grasping the bigger picture, you guys choose to knit-pick at the things that are not important. Instead of commending the man for a wonderful job he has done at showcasing the undermined black male model, you guys instead choose to express nothing but negativity. If you actually watched fashion week in its entirety you would appreciate what he did. I am not a fan of Diddy myself but I will give credit where credit is due. I am extremely tired of watching fashion shows where its nothing but an all white cast as if nothing else in this world exist.
The clothes may not be your taste, but I am thankful that he did do an all black runway show and its a very big deal that he even took that step and risked being misinterpreted.

I thought that it was fabolous that he employed a cast of only gorgeous black men. Anybody who has something negative to say are just a bunch of HATERS. That is exactly how you all sound. None of you had in valid points for your negative comments. GET OVER YOURSELVES. NOW GET SOME SELF LOVE.

I usually don't comment but today I must. Diddy is the MAN! As far as his fashion show is concern it is high end but that's what all designers send down the runway. But anyone can purchase Sean John clothing, the flagship store in Manhattan has clearence sales all the time. (I shop there for my son and my man and never pay full price) Can u say that about other designers?? P Diddy is a great example for young black men today. He has put his hat in many arenas and been successful at it. Not great at everything but a success overall. Much props to DIDDY!

I can't understand why some people think they can put anything out there, and because their name is on it, blacks will buy it. This line is the worst. I know it's just a show, but come on, be real. The guys look guy and you want people to respect your designs. If you want blacks to respect your work, design a saleable product, give them something that's reachable, fashonable, good quaility at an affordable price. This is terrible, and Diddy, or what ever your name is now, you really think that little of your own people that you throwing anything at us. Shame on you! I have some of your clothes in my husband closet, but you can bet your bottom dollar, I won't be buying anymore of your stuff and I do mean stuff, from this day forward. You're are an insult you need to remember where you came from, and how you got where you are now, and who put you there, you meet the same people coming back down BROTHER! And that's my opion! lol
