Michelle Obama wearing Spring 2009 Thakoon with husband Sen. Obama
The Democratic National Conevntion ended with a bang last night: an amazing speech delivered by Sen. Barack Obama, the first African-American presumptive Democratic nominee after clinching the nomination ahead of the final count. When the crowd of 75,000 gave a thunderous applause at the history-making event shortly after his wife Michelle Obama came out with their two daughters and VP pick Joe Biden with wife, I too went into a frenzy... but for her amazing Fall ready floral print dress by Thakoon. Lady O is killing the fashion game.
Last night's dress is a pre-Spring 2009 number created by Thai designer Thakoon Panichgul. As to how he felt about Lady O in his design: "I am incredibly honored that Michelle Obama chose to wear a dress from my collection on such a historical night for her, her family and this country."
Mrs. Obama made Panichigul a household name ahead of schedule: as the next featured designer for Target's International Go campaign, his Thakoon for Target collection will hit stores in early December. The former Harper's Bazaar editor has also created affordable lines for the Gap and Nine West. Impressive resume indeed.
Michelle Obama's style has been nothing short of stellar since her husband announced his candidancy. The dress worn last night by Thakoon, a VOGUE favorite, made it clear why she she recently made Vanity Fair magazine's 69th Annual Best Dressed List. In the article she was dubbed "Commander In Sheath" for sporting fashion forward dresses in classic lines that are not typical First Lady attire.

Michelle Obama and daughters, all in Maria Pinto
All week Lady O brought the heat dressed to the nines giving classic-with-a-twist ensembles. Oh and the hair. Please don't get me started on how she topped even Oprah with her uber perfect blowouts.
At the DNC's opening night on Monday, Mrs. Obama wore a teal v-neck knee-length dress with three-quarter sleeves (and her back out nevertheless, how sexy!) by her favorite designer Maria Pinto . She accessorized it with her own Erickson Beamon crystal pin and patent pumps. Wednesday she sported cobalt blue sheath with crystal-studded rosettes at the neckline. It was a fancy yet perfect pop of color for a camera angle shot from the waist up. I got a text message that night from a very stylish bff: OMG! Michelle O is NOT PLAYING in this dress she's wearing. The next day the fashion blogs had a field day over it as well. Last night she rightly secured her place in the high-fashion world, the red and black floral frock is likely to make society pages and cause conservatives to whisper for not sticking to traditional White House--friendly skirtsuits. Even the Obama daughters impressed us wearing perfectly coordinated dresses every night in this year's hot palette of bold, bright hues.

"Michelle's style can best be described as timeless," said designer Maria Pinto said in a statement e-mailed to the Associated Press on Tuesday. "Choosing items that are always modern and chic, Mrs. Obama possesses a natural and unpretentious sophistication, which is reflected in her clothing. But what I love most, is that at the foundation of this fabulous woman is an unbelievable brilliance and eloquence coupled by the grace and beauty of a dancer." The Chicago-based designer just opened a namesake boutique in Chicago's West Loop area. The teal dress she wore Monday will be available September 15th so you can get a piece of Lady O's style. After Mrs. Obama wore Pinto's purple sheath in June while giving her husband the infamous 'fistbump', demands for this design rose significantly: that dress alone is 6 months back-ordered. Call it the Obama Effect..
Maria Pinto is available at Saks, Barneys New York and Takashimaya. Or visit www.mariapinto.com for more information.
Now tell us, do you think Michelle Obama is too fashion forward for the White House?

#2 do you me Ives St. Laurent....who the heck is Ivy... his older less talented sister?
I agree Michelle's attire was boring, matronly, a little too bland and must have been picked by a Republican undercover stylist...
but her daughters were equally poorly dressed... Somebody call Aioki and Ming Lee Simpson!!!

I really does not matter what Michelle Obama wears she will always be targeted by those out there who will try and find fault with every thing she wears, says or does. She wears her designer outfits she's critizied, she wears everyday affordable outfits she's critized.
Cindy McCain is the one who is the elitist with all of her multi-millions. Why doesn't the media pick up on this and scrutinize Cindy and all of her designer clothes which are not very flattering to her anyway!

It's time for her to start dressing for the position of First Lady; although, the dresses that she has worn have been somewhat fashonable they are not White House worthy.

I thought it was just me. I am glad to see that others feel the same way. I, too, have wondered why she wears those hideous dresses. I have not been impressed with any of her clothes. One night her hair also looked awful. The night Hillary spoke, Michelle looked as if she just brushed her hair up and went out the door. She is tall and has a nice figure. She needs someone to help her with her appearance. I also noticed the butt shots. Suit up Michelle, suit up. Look the role.

She looks great every time I see her. And for those still tooting the so-called elitist horn, she wears dresses by affordable designers, versus $300,000 dresses Cindy McCain wears.

OMG! Michelle has made such a style transformation from the beginning of the campaign until now. I can remember a DREADFUL sight of panty lines in the infamous California rally that Maria Shriver appeared at. She had khaki pants on that were too short, and exposed an unsightly panty line. I must admit she or her stylist have been on point in the last few months. BUT THAT FLORAL NIGHTMARE she wore on the biggest night of she and her husband's life.... Call me shallow, but I just could not get past it! I do image consulting and personal shopping. SOLIDS, SOLIDS, SOLIDS, always make a great statement. Dont' get me wrong, I love all kinds of wild patterns i.e. florals, boho, neo, retro, glam, new wave, and etc. Yet, I dont' care who designed that dress.... Those pictures will go down in history. She could have done a striking purple, red, navy, brown.. heck I would have taken pink as long as she didn't have black shoes with it(LOL) and proper foundation. She could have worn that sharp purple number that she wore in the Essence article. And further more, she does not have to be an elitist to be well dressed. Designers would die to give her clothes to wear.. for free. That type of publicity launches careers. We set trends! Well coiffed people we have been. I would love to see her dressed by Project Runways contestants Kato, Terry, or Mychael Knight. For those of you that want to be ALL self righteous for not noticing her fashion, GET OVER YOURSELVES! You probably commented on that sistah's too tight dress last week in church! LOL! We have always been held to an higher standard. Why would this situation be any different? Yes, she represents ALL Americans. Yet, the spin has been the first African-American President and First Lady. Love her spunk, and real sister views that she delivers with the utmost grace...yet, Michelle...please stick to the basics. Oh, and she does have body, body! Shake them haters off!

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think her choice of clothes sucked. But with those elephant hips and thunder thighs nothing but a straight up and down bag would cover them...But just because of her ethenic group her ethenic people think she is wonderful. If someone of a different had her shape and wore her clothes they would turn off the picture.

There is No doubt that Michele possess Leadership qualities and a very supportive mother. Her skills and talents far outweighs others in that steps. But I dont know about the dress. I guess i must be terrible in fashions or discerning the times, because for the life of me, i have a very hard time understanding why she sits half naked next to the most qualified world leader everytime i see her on stage. May be its just me. But i wouldnt take any of her dress for free.
Blessings.
