When President-elect Barack Obama spoke of the country's need for change he wasn't referring to just the economy . The GQ, Men's Vogue and Ebony poster king duly noted that when it comes to those wearing baggy pants with their underwear exposed, he just ain't feeling it. In one of his pre-election win interviews with MTV, Obama answered questions submitted by viewers emailed through Facebook.
One asked how he felt about the attempted (and successful) ban on baggy pants. Several cities in Michigan, Florida, Georgia and even a suburb in Chicago (Barack's hometown) have already passed a "Baggy Pants Bill" where an arrest for overexposure of your underwear can have you serve jail time, do community service and/or be fined as much as $500 (see chart.)
Obama's comment: "Here is my attitude: I think people passing a law against people wearing sagging pants is a waste of time. We should be focused on creating jobs, improving our schools, health care, dealing with the war in Iraq , and anybody, any public official, that is worrying about sagging pants probably needs to spend some time focusing on real problems out there. Having said that, brothers should pull up their pants. You are walking by your mother, your grandmother, your underwear is showing. What's wrong with that? Come on. There are some issues that we face, that you don't have to pass a law, but that doesn't mean folks can't have some sense and some respect for other people and, you know, some people might not want to see your underwear -- I'm one of them."
The College Survival Guide
A Fridge
Regardless of whether you have a wonderful sized meal plan, your fridge may come in handy with leftovers or when you feel like stocking it with bottled drinks.
Computer
The convenience of a computer is essential when sending your kids off to college. Forget the hike to the computer lab across campus students need a computer in the comfort of their room. A printer comes in handy as well. Depending on whether your child plans to carry his laptop around campus, you might opt for a desk top since they're lighter on the pockets.
Snacks
You will surely survive with off of a meal plan but it doesn't hurt to stock up on snacks when you don't feel like leaving your dorm room. Bottled water, pop corn, cereal and Ramen noodles are all low budget snacks to stock up on. Just be weary of the freshman 15.
Things from home
Some college students suffer from homesickness the first year. It's best to surround yourself with things like photos of the family, pillows or even stuffed animals. Anything that reminds your child of home.
MP3 Player
With all the stress that comes from school and exams, sometimes it's nice to block out the chaos in your life and even your roommate with music. It's nearly impossible to find students walking to class who aren't jamming to tunes.
Budget
Students who enter college often come in at the ripening age of 18. A great time for credit cards. Parents beware, your child may end up ruining their credit at a young age
Alarm Clock
When you're in college you don't have the luxury of getting awaken by your parents. It's now your responsibility to get to class on time so alarm clocks are a must. But keep your roommate in mind. You shouldn't wake him up ever morning with a blow horn alarm.
Cleaning supplies
Now you don't necessarily need to bring in the rubber gloves, mop and gas mask but it doesn't hurt to bring along Clorox all purpose wipes for spills or dust. Vacuums and brooms come in handy too depending if you have a carpeted dorm.
Bedding
What most parents aren't aware of is that most college beds are twin sized but extra long and require special sheets. When shopping keep your eye open for sheets that clearly state 'extra long' or else your child may come up short.
Shower shoes
You really don't know what some people do in the shower these days. College showers are known to be creeping with germs so spare yourself the fungus and purchase flip flops for the shower. You'll thank us later!
Lil Wayne's exposed underwear look could warrent arrest in some states

A word of caution to rappers and fans rocking the style like Bow Wow, Soulja Boy and Lil' Wayne. If you're thinking of attending one of the Inauguration balls in Washington DC next January, take Jay-Z's advice and "button-up dude." Although Obama made it clear that it's not on his list of top priorities in office, if you're looking to impress him, step it up -- rather pull 'em up -- dude.

When people say "Brothas or Brothers", I hope they are referring to males and females of all races. It's not just an issue with a certain race or group. Its probably more common with a certain race, but not the only race.

Its not a good look and who ever wears that has to be a fool to think it is. Stop being a follower and create you own style. Its played out anyway move on to something else that's not showing ya draws.Another thing you pregnant ladies we dont want to see you bellies hanging out the bottom of your shirts either not a good look. Ladies we dont want to see your muffins hangin out the side of your shirts or your ass crack when you bend over. The guys arent the only ones.

yes, i believe what Barack said its right it shouldn't be a law, but it should be out of respect. But since this generation growing up not knows nothing about respect then it might have to become a law. These people are going to do what they want there already doing things against the law so it won't really make a difference. I love Barack Obama!

Hey out there I am one who have never understood or thought this style in our black community meant nothing but disrespect to the world as a whole! I remember when my 13 year old son started wearing that look, I immediately screamed,"Boy, Where is your belt"? He told me "Ma, this is the new style". I said "What is this world coming to? These young men have lost their minds! I would like to see before I close my eyes in death, young looking presentable again,well-shaven,neatly dressed, courteous and clean-mouth, and respectable to their own family and equally so to all others they come in contact with! I just want to say on the board, young men you now have a black man in leadership now and this should make you want to take some notes, a lot of young men have yearned to have some role model material, now young men he is front and center for you to mimic, check him out and listen to what he has to say, stop with all the excuses, strive to become clean and polished who knows your family of men have the same opportunity to get a spot in the White House. So I would suggest young fathers, young mothers, start grooming our future black presidents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The baggy pants style started in prisons by black gay men to show that they would take it in the ass---this is a fact. So, if you see someone wearing their pants like this, ask them if they are queer.

I think a lot of our rappers lack integrity and they want a excuse to think it's cool to promote the hood in such a fashion and with the passion! I'm from the hood and a majority of my friends look at me as if I am funny acting or that I come off like I am better then they are!!!!!!!! I carry pride in myself and my family and I work hard, and strive for bigger and better things and don't hold no reguards to anything I grow to achive in life and everyone else can have the same if they work hard at it! Nobody has given me anything!!!!!!!!!!! So when it comes to the hard work that the rappers do! Subside all the partying and flashy clothes, uplift the community and build company's and jobs! All the Diddy's and Mary J. Blige's, lets not leave out Jay Z invest your money in your community and generate more money by making it grow with everything around you! Make things better for everyone not just yourself, Puffy put away the Ciroc for a minute and the private Jets! Take your clothing line and expand them here and build and make coorporations here in the U.S.A, Mary as for the Car Company help them get out the rut tell them to make them affordable for thoes that work, Jigga keep making beautiful music and tell B lose the Million Dollar clothes teach our woman to be productive young women and hold there own, Jigga make company's and jobs for the young brothers get them off the corners, go into the hoods and uplift the young brothers! I mean the real hoods......... It's easy to support Obama and get help to get him elected but tell all the stars that supported him, he can't do it alone!!!!! He needs help!!!!!!!!!! Billons of dollars to help America lies in yall hands as well tooo!!!! It doesn't have to be that I'm saying this for a hand out it can be that I am saying this to generate you more money by investing it!!!!!!!!!!!!
