When President-elect Barack Obama spoke of the country's need for change he wasn't referring to just the economy . The GQ, Men's Vogue and Ebony poster king duly noted that when it comes to those wearing baggy pants with their underwear exposed, he just ain't feeling it. In one of his pre-election win interviews with MTV, Obama answered questions submitted by viewers emailed through Facebook.
One asked how he felt about the attempted (and successful) ban on baggy pants. Several cities in Michigan, Florida, Georgia and even a suburb in Chicago (Barack's hometown) have already passed a "Baggy Pants Bill" where an arrest for overexposure of your underwear can have you serve jail time, do community service and/or be fined as much as $500 (see chart.)
Obama's comment: "Here is my attitude: I think people passing a law against people wearing sagging pants is a waste of time. We should be focused on creating jobs, improving our schools, health care, dealing with the war in Iraq , and anybody, any public official, that is worrying about sagging pants probably needs to spend some time focusing on real problems out there. Having said that, brothers should pull up their pants. You are walking by your mother, your grandmother, your underwear is showing. What's wrong with that? Come on. There are some issues that we face, that you don't have to pass a law, but that doesn't mean folks can't have some sense and some respect for other people and, you know, some people might not want to see your underwear -- I'm one of them."
The College Survival Guide
A Fridge
Regardless of whether you have a wonderful sized meal plan, your fridge may come in handy with leftovers or when you feel like stocking it with bottled drinks.
Computer
The convenience of a computer is essential when sending your kids off to college. Forget the hike to the computer lab across campus students need a computer in the comfort of their room. A printer comes in handy as well. Depending on whether your child plans to carry his laptop around campus, you might opt for a desk top since they're lighter on the pockets.
Snacks
You will surely survive with off of a meal plan but it doesn't hurt to stock up on snacks when you don't feel like leaving your dorm room. Bottled water, pop corn, cereal and Ramen noodles are all low budget snacks to stock up on. Just be weary of the freshman 15.
Things from home
Some college students suffer from homesickness the first year. It's best to surround yourself with things like photos of the family, pillows or even stuffed animals. Anything that reminds your child of home.
MP3 Player
With all the stress that comes from school and exams, sometimes it's nice to block out the chaos in your life and even your roommate with music. It's nearly impossible to find students walking to class who aren't jamming to tunes.
Budget
Students who enter college often come in at the ripening age of 18. A great time for credit cards. Parents beware, your child may end up ruining their credit at a young age
Alarm Clock
When you're in college you don't have the luxury of getting awaken by your parents. It's now your responsibility to get to class on time so alarm clocks are a must. But keep your roommate in mind. You shouldn't wake him up ever morning with a blow horn alarm.
Cleaning supplies
Now you don't necessarily need to bring in the rubber gloves, mop and gas mask but it doesn't hurt to bring along Clorox all purpose wipes for spills or dust. Vacuums and brooms come in handy too depending if you have a carpeted dorm.
Bedding
What most parents aren't aware of is that most college beds are twin sized but extra long and require special sheets. When shopping keep your eye open for sheets that clearly state 'extra long' or else your child may come up short.
Shower shoes
You really don't know what some people do in the shower these days. College showers are known to be creeping with germs so spare yourself the fungus and purchase flip flops for the shower. You'll thank us later!
Lil Wayne's exposed underwear look could warrent arrest in some states

A word of caution to rappers and fans rocking the style like Bow Wow, Soulja Boy and Lil' Wayne. If you're thinking of attending one of the Inauguration balls in Washington DC next January, take Jay-Z's advice and "button-up dude." Although Obama made it clear that it's not on his list of top priorities in office, if you're looking to impress him, step it up -- rather pull 'em up -- dude.

The baggy, showing your draws look is so played out and it was never attractive. Brotha's need to move on to a better style and trash the gold teeth, huge hideous chain look also. Time to move toward sophistication and real style.

Lil' Wayne's "fashion sense" evidences a lil' brain.
A new "stimulus" (read, election payoff) package is about to be enacted, so be sure to rush out and spend it on new LaBrons immediately. . .
I can't wait to see Michelle Obama "drop it like its hot" at the Inaugural Ball. That will mark the end of quality culture in the United States, and the arrival of the lowest common denominator. Congratulations, black America. You have succeeded where many other enemies have failed . . .

Great comments by Obama. If a person doesn't respect themselves and not care how they present themselves to others, then why should anyone else have respect for them. Maybe, just maybe, Mr. Obama will bring back some dignity in the community.

Barak is so right. It's bad enough when the younger boys do it, but when grown ass men, (Lil Wayne for example) who have children themselves do it, it's even more of a discrace. And the females who have their ass cracks showing are a disgrace as well. It's not just the fella doing it.

I hope the young men and unfortunately some very grown men are paying attention. This look is so disgraceful. Who actually came up with this idea and thought it was good? Furthermore, what other idiot agreed? I am tired of seeing guys walking down the street barely able to walk because the waist of the pants is actually at the knees. That is so dumb. Please let this look become a fad of the past. Please!
