A close friend of Toledo divulged to Life & Style Weekly, "Isabel was very cognizant of two things when she designed this outfit. She knew all eyes would be on Michelle. And she knew that it would be very cold out. So she designed something that was very sophisticated and very warm. The upper part of the coat and the back of the sleeve are all lined with a pashmina lining for extra warmth around the torso. The fabric and color are also very sophisticated. There's an intricate layering of lace over wool. And Isabel calls the color lemongrass, which I think is so elegant." Indeed.

Now that Inauguration Day has ended the buzz is all about what "The Dress" will be worn by Michelle.

The College Survival Guide
A Fridge
Regardless of whether you have a wonderful sized meal plan, your fridge may come in handy with leftovers or when you feel like stocking it with bottled drinks.
Computer
The convenience of a computer is essential when sending your kids off to college. Forget the hike to the computer lab across campus students need a computer in the comfort of their room. A printer comes in handy as well. Depending on whether your child plans to carry his laptop around campus, you might opt for a desk top since they're lighter on the pockets.
Snacks
You will surely survive with off of a meal plan but it doesn't hurt to stock up on snacks when you don't feel like leaving your dorm room. Bottled water, pop corn, cereal and Ramen noodles are all low budget snacks to stock up on. Just be weary of the freshman 15.
Things from home
Some college students suffer from homesickness the first year. It's best to surround yourself with things like photos of the family, pillows or even stuffed animals. Anything that reminds your child of home.
MP3 Player
With all the stress that comes from school and exams, sometimes it's nice to block out the chaos in your life and even your roommate with music. It's nearly impossible to find students walking to class who aren't jamming to tunes.
Budget
Students who enter college often come in at the ripening age of 18. A great time for credit cards. Parents beware, your child may end up ruining their credit at a young age
Alarm Clock
When you're in college you don't have the luxury of getting awaken by your parents. It's now your responsibility to get to class on time so alarm clocks are a must. But keep your roommate in mind. You shouldn't wake him up ever morning with a blow horn alarm.
Cleaning supplies
Now you don't necessarily need to bring in the rubber gloves, mop and gas mask but it doesn't hurt to bring along Clorox all purpose wipes for spills or dust. Vacuums and brooms come in handy too depending if you have a carpeted dorm.
Bedding
What most parents aren't aware of is that most college beds are twin sized but extra long and require special sheets. When shopping keep your eye open for sheets that clearly state 'extra long' or else your child may come up short.
Shower shoes
You really don't know what some people do in the shower these days. College showers are known to be creeping with germs so spare yourself the fungus and purchase flip flops for the shower. You'll thank us later!

Michelle Obama keeps missing the mark on her wardrobe. The white ball gown was the last straw. The gown looks like a bad bridal gown, why a train for this affair?, she needs a stylist badly. Pres. Obama looks great every time. Michell & Barbara Bush have the same style sense; never quite making the mark. I'm sure glad shes brilliant at least.

First Lady Michelle Obama was absolutely gorgeous! Very classy in dress--I loved both outfits. What women need to know--particularly white women--is that our First Lady is not a "pattern" but the ORIGINAL. She doesn't have to dress to suit the "Western" standards of style attributed to former first ladies (that stepford wife, cookie-cutter look). First Lady Michelle, UNLIKE OTHER FIRST LADIES, is 5'll in height. Therefore she isn't suppose to look like the typical presidents' wives of the past (who were about 5'6). Also, our First Lady has curves. She's not straight as a board, like Jackie O, nor is she shaped flat in the rear, like Laura Bush, and she doesn't have cankles (ankle/calves), like Hillary. Also, our First Lady will dress to please her own shape and height and body weight; she is comfortable in her own skin. Just like most African-American women, our taste and style isn't subject to white women's likes or dislikes but to OUR choosing. We are physiologically different in many ways. African-American women and Latino women are naturally curvey in shape (hips, back, thighs). So NO, our First Lady is not going to fit in your MODE of what you think she should wear.
First Lady Obama is setting her own standard. And I say, she's regal, classy, elegant and sophisticated.

And another thing. . . First Lady Michelle Obama has a breathtaking smile, great oratory presence, chocolate smooth skin, HIGH intelligence; she's a concerned and loving mother and a classy wife to President Elect Obama. With such outstanding qualities, what she wears is of no consequence.
If President Barrak Obama likes what his wife wears, and she is comfortable with her choices, then what others have to say doesn’t really matter. After all, our First Lady has the perfect adornment/ornament needed to enhance any wardrobe: the brave, dashing, intelligent, handsome President Obama on her arm!
What lesson to learn from this: Clothes are merely trappings--superficial in comparison to a warm smile, a caring heart, a charming disposition. And to add to her appeal, she's a Harvard and Princeton grad.
First Lady Michelle Obama's PERSONAL attire is vogue in fashion SENSE: made of intelligence, kindness, hospitality, courage, truthfulness. And her accessories are even greater: strength, pride and the ability to support the bettering of America.
These qualities can't be bought in any store, nor made or designed by a tailor or seamstress, for they are handmade by God, suitable only to be worn by those with honorable character.
(For those who want to measure our First Lady Obama in a negative light, make sure that you have the correct measuring stick)

Michelle looked so stunning last night and beautiful. I loved the first dance with her and president obama and Beyonce singing Etta james. It was a sight to behold. Overall I think that Michelle Obama style choices is very classy, clean cut and simple. She does not have to be flamboyant, loud, slutty or ghetto to make a statement. Her style will go down in history as the best dressed first lady in the white house.

Oh, and those two little angels, Sasah and Malia, were simply too cute. Whenever I see them, I want to smile.

Michelle is a beautiful black woman. I just see her and start to think "finally a good representation of who we truly are". I agree that she should have a stylist who can give her the right outfits for her tall frame. The dress at the ball was not for her. You could see she was not comfortable in it. I did like the dress she wore at the inauguration speech. Thier daughters were just adorable.

I am very proud of the Obama's. now for the "fashion...." Michelle needs to fire her fashion advisor. The dress for the inaguration was way overdone and more of a cocktail dress. The necklace was inappropriate for daytime wear. The dress looked like it was made of good drapery fabric. The ball gown looked like a wedding gown....Who is advising her?

Ignore these angry white girls who obviously want everyone to know that they are disgusted about this presidency. No one pissed and moaned when they put Bush in the White House TWICE! So just get over it please. Michelle is beautiful and she stunned everyone watching her last night. I agree whole heartedly with # 2 and 3 because it's true: we are different in physical form and some white women choose gowns that are unflattering, matronly or skanky. There is no middleground because some of them just have NO CLASS. On the other hand, Jill Biden was stunning as well so she is an exception to this pattern. Like I said before, get over it, Michelle is beautiful, those Black children will be running through that White house and across that lawn for the next EIGHT years, and mr. president said it best on Election Night: "I WILL BE your President too."

Frankly, I too was horrified when I saw Michelle's inaugural outfit. I agree with the person who said that the fabric looked like drapery material. Also, the color of the outfit and accessories can best be described as "bilious"! She looked "nice", (just "nice", not stunning in the evening gown)! Michelle might not be Jackie-O or Princess Diana, but she could stand to learn a basic fashion lesson from both of these ladies: "LESS IS MORE"! Both of them had to learn it, and they became much more attractive for having done so! It applies whether you're black or white, short or tall, big-
butted, or flat-butted, etc. Michelle is a stunning lady who doesn't need a lot of ruffles or ornamentation to make her look better. I personally envision her in outfits with simple lines and bold colors, accessorized with eye-popping jewelry, shoes, handbags and other accessories!

Who cares? White, black, brown, yellow-How did her fashion sense turn into a Race thing. Come on people let it go already. She is the first lady and can dress the way she chooses. White girls and black girls all dress the same now. We just look different in the clothes. Some look better, some worse, who cares- Worry about the real issues at hand. I bet Michelle picked out her own clothes. The dress were beautiful(i'm white) I would have worn both.It wasn't the clothes it was her posture. If she stood with pride in herself the white dress would have looked stunning.I think she was uncomfortable last night. Give her a few weeks to adjust and she will shine. She was beautiful and gracious. He looked good enough to eat!
