Everyone's talking about the dearth of black models on the runway and in high-fashion magazines. Vogue Italia even published an entire issue dedicated to the topic last year. The truth is, there are a lot of black models out there -- good ones, too. They might not have reached one-name status yet (think Tyra, Naomi, Alek, Iman and Liyah), but they're on their way. In honor of NYC Fashion Week, which runs from February 13th to February 20th, Style Spotter is highlighting some of the talented young women who will be gracing the catwalks at Bryant Park.
Name: Jourdan Dunn
Born: August 3, 1990
Hometown: London, England
Claim To Fame: In February of 2008, she became the first black model to walk in a Prada show in more than a decade.
Where You'll Find Her: On one of the four covers of Vogue Italia's all-black issue, in trendy/alternative magazines, walking the runway for the likes of Chanel, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Alexander McQueen.
Who She Reminds Us Of: When we think of Jourdan Dunn, one other British supermodel comes to mind... We certainly don't wish the Naomi Campbell's, uh, shortcomings, upon Miss Dunn, but, minus the drama, her long and successful modeling career is enviable.
