Politicians and their wives rarely get caught up in PETA squabbles. That's usually reserved for the Aretha Franklins and Lindsay Lohans of the world, but France's first lady, Carla Bruni, recently drew attention from the intimidating animal right's organization for supposedly wearing fur. She maintains that she never buys or wears the real thing, but the incident begs the question: How does her fellow first lady (and partner in fashion) Michelle Obama feel about fur?"We've never written to Michelle Obama about this issue because we have always known her to be fur free," Amanda Schinke, media campaigns coordinator for PETA, told the Washington Times. Mrs. O's spokesperson said the same.

As long as you eat animals, buy or use leather do not bitch about people wearing fur. Have you ever checked out how chickens, hogs and cows end up on tables? It's either all the way or no way, if you eat animals don't even talk to me about those who wear fur.

Julia, you say "Adam and Eve didn't wear anything till the apple was eaten."
Where did you get that information??
It isn't in the Bible!

Julie: If an animal passed away from natural causes I don't think its wrong to wear it. I believe you shouldn't kill an animal for the purpose of its fur.

All you anti-fur people talk about is that obtaining the fur is animal cruelty. Are you all vegetarians? Do you know what they do to cows in the slaughter houses in order for you to enjoy that burger or steak. How many people wear all leather shoes???

If you think it's ok to skin poor little animals to wear, why don't we skin YOU and see how it feels!

I'm a middle-of-the-roader on the topic of harvesting animals in moderation for human consumption. I'm against trophy killing, but I do eat meat, fish and dairy. If someone is wearing a coat or shoes of an animal which was completely consumed, then I'm okay with that (i.e. rabbit, deer, cattle). I'm against taking pelts or tusks if the rest of the animal is discarded.
Over-fishing, over-killing or over-harvesting anything to the detriment of the environment is foolish and even dangerous to our own human existance. I'd like to see an exploration of farming insects for human consumption. It's a quality protein that is much overlooked as an alternative to animal protein.
