Snacks
You will surely survive with off of a meal plan but it doesn't hurt to stock up on snacks when you don't feel like leaving your dorm room. Bottled water, pop corn, cereal and Ramen noodles are all low budget snacks to stock up on. Just be weary of the freshman 15.
Things from home
Some college students suffer from homesickness the first year. It's best to surround yourself with things like photos of the family, pillows or even stuffed animals. Anything that reminds your child of home.
MP3 Player
With all the stress that comes from school and exams, sometimes it's nice to block out the chaos in your life and even your roommate with music. It's nearly impossible to find students walking to class who aren't jamming to tunes.
Budget
Students who enter college often come in at the ripening age of 18. A great time for credit cards. Parents beware, your child may end up ruining their credit at a young age
Alarm Clock
When you're in college you don't have the luxury of getting awaken by your parents. It's now your responsibility to get to class on time so alarm clocks are a must. But keep your roommate in mind. You shouldn't wake him up ever morning with a blow horn alarm.
Cleaning supplies
Now you don't necessarily need to bring in the rubber gloves, mop and gas mask but it doesn't hurt to bring along Clorox all purpose wipes for spills or dust. Vacuums and brooms come in handy too depending if you have a carpeted dorm.
Bedding
What most parents aren't aware of is that most college beds are twin sized but extra long and require special sheets. When shopping keep your eye open for sheets that clearly state 'extra long' or else your child may come up short.
Shower shoes
You really don't know what some people do in the shower these days. College showers are known to be creeping with germs so spare yourself the fungus and purchase flip flops for the shower. You'll thank us later!
"The inspiration of the product stemmed from Janice's frustration with wearing down her nails and seeking a coating to better protect her nails," says Dawn Lynch-Goodwin, of her Minx co-founder Janice Jordan. These "grillz for your nails" have been picked up from just about everyone in Hollywood and have filtered down to cities like Atlanta and Detroit. Goodwin and Jordan founded the company in 2006. The pair, who are polar opposites (a girly girl with beauty experience versus a marketing guru and extreme-sport fiend), complement each other famously.
"I love the attention Minx gives me and am always experimenting with fun and funky designs," says Jordan. "Dawn is more of the girly girl in our partnership. ...She's the one wearing a dress and heels when we are working in the factory!"
Beyonce was the first celebrity to wear Minx during a 2007 awards show. Since then, Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, Kate Beckinsale, Christina Aguilera, Blake Lively, Mariah Carey, Pink, Lady Gaga, Lisa Marie Presley, Lily Allen, Eve, Keri Hilson, Keyshia Cole, Leona Lewis, Liv Tyler, Fergie, Katy Perry, Lindsay Lohan, Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, Heidi Klum, Megan Fox, Paris Hilton, and Angela and Vanessa Simmons have all "Minxed" themselves.
"In the fall of '07, we had given some sample Minx to celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik," says Jordan. "Dawn was in Australia when I received a text message from Tom saying he had just Minxed Beyoncé with Golden Lightning for the American Music Awards. We almost had a heart attack! We had no product, no Web site, no help, and suddenly overnight everyone was demanding to know what nail product Beyoncé used to make her fingers look like they were dipped in gold! Since then, Beyoncé has been wearing Minx almost nonstop, and we have made countless custom designs specifically for her."
Of course, Minx is very exclusive, both in price (starting at $55 for a manicure) and in access, only being offered at a few select salons in the country.

I have issues?...lol You know most BW here on BV's are just unbelievable! You come here online talking all that smack when someone calls you out or even dares to make an observation about you, and then you go into that typical immature BW's rant! But, you have no qualms whatsoever about belittling a BM, or calling him a "dog", or saying that BM aren't any good when the moment strikes you. For the most part the majority of you are simply just disrespectful, are full of double standards, live in denial, and also generally have closed minds...especially when it comes to your attitudes and your behaviors. I can't tell you how many times a BM might say something along the lines that he may date non-black women, then all hell breaks loose! Then he comes under attack from the majority of the BW here saying that he's a sellout, that he hates himself, even hates his mother, or that he's lost! But, you never say anything about a BW that does that, or says the same thing! You may say that "she's" just exploring her options, but why can't you also say that about a brother? Or, are you implying that he has no options to exercise except with BW? If, so then you're way off base! That's nothing but BW's continuing sick double standards. I have never once viewed any comments on BV's from a BM making any remarks, even suggestive ones about anyone's mother....only BW do that! But, then in the very same breath talk about how BM don't respect BW! I can tell you the primary reason why most BW don't know where the good BM are or even have one, or even where to discover them! It's because you don't even know what a good BM is...period! And, honestly most of you don't even deserve a good BM because your altitudes just plain "suck"! You think that you can just talk to BM anyway you choose, and not get it thrown back in your faces like you try to do all the time with the brothers! Sorry, but it's a brand new day! I'm here to tell you that any man worth his salt isn't going to go for that, and those that do apparently have little self respect, no options themselves to exercise, or have to unfortunately depend on a BW for his support. But, we all know that only means being controlled by a control freak! That's the main reason why the good BM has moved on, and will only to continue to move on to greener pastures, to sensible and respectful women be whatever race! Many BW think that wearing fake hair is going to attract a BM, but I hate to burst your bubble but we're not that desperate, nor stupid to be sucked into that immature mind set! And, if I did want a WW (which I don't) then I certainly wouldn't want a "fake" one! Why get a fake one when you can get the real thing? If, you really think that fake hair, and ungodly 'multicolored nails are going to make you more attractive, then believe me you must simply be plain ignorant! Try taking better care of yourselves, lose some weight, and also that negative attitude for starters! then maybe...just maybe more BM may develop an interest in your other than just for a booty call! BW's attitudes clearly show "why" 70% of BW are not married, nor have any prospects for marriage, and never will. Most of you will only continue to sit there in your beds at night watching TV with a drink sitting on your night stand...hoping, and wishing that you in fact did have a good man there beside you. But, until BW grow up, and change their attitudes, and learn how to respect not only BM, but also other BW as well absolutely nothing is going to change in this world for you, because you've been put on BLAST! Everybody now knows your game, and it ain't good!

For your 411 I don't wear fake pieces and I never did, my brotha', my hair has it's all natural length and like it just the way it is. I do not need these extra things to look attractive, I can wear a big old t-shirt and some baggy pants and still look good in them. No one is telling you who to date, and I certainly don't have an attitude if anything you do. I am simply saying that just like I woke up this morning and felt like wearing sweats today when yesterday I felt like wearing some jeans, these women out there have the right to wear their hair or their nails how they want on that very day. That's my opinion. And your statistics don't mean a thing to me because those so called scientist/ researchers are not perfect and make mistakes in their works. Men who do not like big women should not request children, because that's what happens when you have them, and have to take care of them, the house and the man. I do not know what kind of women you hang out with but you seriously need to chill because black women in general are not like that. In fact race has nothing to do with it, but how a person was brought up and the people they follow and keep around them. No one is wishing for a man in their life, I know I'm not; right now my focus is being a successful and educated black woman, when the time is right that perfect black, white, french, chinese, korean, caribbean etc, man will find me. And a black woman acting white is not just the hair and nails, okay, it's everything: dressing like one, bleaching her skin, talking like one, eating like one, dancing like one, playing her man like one etc. My brother your racist against your own race and seem to be a male chauvinist because there are white woman acting black, korean acting black or white, it's not just one group. Like I said you hang around the wrong set maybe you should travel, see the world and see it's many women. You know maybe acting white isn't a bad thing, if we have their mentality then we could just go down to wallstreet buy up all the dawn stocks and run things ourselves; what do you say my black sisters?! You know you're doing exactly what you accuse BW of doing. A BW is this and a BW's that, everyone goes into a rant not just BW but I can assure you that I'm not ranting. If a man acts like a dog then maybe he deserves to know that he's acting like one (you know very well that there are brothers out there who do no good and are up to no good). And if he has no respect for himself then how can he receive any and finally the only attitude that sucks here is yours, and if 70% of BW women aren't married they're tired of men's crap, they are not ready yet or they're out conquering the world.
