Beauty News: Queen Latifah & Fifty To Debut Scents This Fall

It may not be a surprise but two more rapper/moguls have joined the now crowded market of celebrity scents--both Queen Latifah and Fifty Cent are cashing in on their fame by officially dropping fragrances this fall. The Queen has paired up with licensee Parlux, who we reported earlier inked deals with Rihanna, Kanye West and Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, and portfolio includes scents from Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson. Latifah is no stranger to the beauty world - she's served as a Cover Girl model for Procter & Gamble since 2001 and helped create Cover Girl's Queen Collection of makeup for women of color. Here is a shot of her looking regal in red in the upcoming ad, which is slated to appear in magazines this fall.

The ruby-red bottle was inspired by "the color of sexiness and love," the Queen told WWD. It's a square shape "to represent the strength of a woman," while a raised heart represents beauty from within.

"I love fragrance and the idea of having one of my own, that was tailor-made for me and my own sensibilities, I thought it was a fantastic idea - ego aside. Initially a lot of the ingredients smelled nice, but they weren't how I wanted to be represented for my first fragrance - they were a little too mature or a little too sweet." She claims she smelled about 50 different scents before coming up with the final version she described as "warm and sexy."

The Queen by Queen Latifah collection will include eau de parfum spray in two sizes, 3.4 oz. for $59 and 1.7 oz. for $49. A body lotion will be available for $35 as well as a body butter for $40. It will be available at Macy's, Dillard's and Bon-Ton in August.

Curtis "Fifty Cent" Jackson

Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson's first fragrance, Power by Fifty Cent, doesn't hit Macy's stores until November. He unveiled the scent at a private event this week looking pretty powerful himself in a sharp, tailored gray suit in a move a' la Sean "Diddy" Combs. The cologne is "a representation of a larger portion of my lifestyle," Fifty explained to New York Magazine. The scent's notes is made up of lemon leaves, black pepper, and dark wood with coriander. So who is his target audience? "Everyone human," he has said. After achieving huge success with his Vitamin Water and making concerted efforts to step up his image lately, he stands a chance to succeed with this as well.
