Scene and Heard at Fashion's Night Out

Comments (3)

New York City was alive with the sounds of shoppers last night. They came out by the thousands to take in Vogue magazine's brand-new, economy-boosting event: Fashion's Night Out. More than 700 stores all over New York City participated in this event, which was meant to stimulate shopping and celebrate fashion.

Well, it worked! From the Lower East Side to the Upper West Side, the streets were packed to the brim with people, laughing, running and generally drunk with joy -- and free wine. I was one of the thousands of revelers happily shuttling around the city with my good friends Julee Wilson of Real Simple magazine and Jacqueline Cooper of Nicole Miller, one of my favorite brands. From rapper Kid Cudi to pop star Kelis, we saw it all. Check out my top 10 highlights.

1) A massive line of more than 300 people that wrapped around the block for rapper Kid Cudi at the Bathing Ape store in Soho. When I asked if they were buying clothes, everyone replied in unison: "No! We are just here to see him."

2) Beautiful and poised Essence magazine editor Mikki Taylor laughing and chatting as she "shop hopped" on the Upper East Side.

3) Kelis, sporting gray-and-black hair, hanging with friends way past midnight at Henri Bendel with baby in tow. She was really friendly when I approached her but wanted no photos and barely wanted to talk about fashion. "I'm just here to support my friend Rodrigo Otazu," she said. "He has beautiful jewelry."

4) Pharrell Williams at his downtown boutique, Billionaire Boys Club, working the cash register.

5) Actress Kerry Washington, socialite Genevieve Jones and a host of other A-listers, including Bruce Willis, enjoying an intimate dinner at the Emporio Armani store on Fifth Avenue.

6) Lil Wayne's album being blasted at maximum volume from the Chanel store on East 57th Street.

7) Pandemonium outside the Rachel Roy (Damon Dash's ex) pop-up store.

8) Rihanna popping into Intermix while hundreds of shoppers clamored to get a glimpse at her!

9) Sean "Diddy" Combs loving the crowd -- and the crowd loving him right back -- as he walked into his Sean John flagship store on Fifth Avenue.

10) Superstylist June Ambrose clearly having the time of her life as she hit luxury department store Barneys.
