The eclectic élan of first lady Michelle Obama has been written and talked about ad nauseam hither and yon, but few have dedicated their days and nights to chronicling her every look such as Mary Tomer, founder and contributing editor of the wildly popular web site Mrs-O.org. And Tomer is dedicated, keeping up with the first lady's selection of kicks, earrings, brooches, dresses and pants. Most important, she lists the designers, many of whom were unknown before they were graced by Mrs. O-not to be confused with Jackie O.
Now, in her soon-to-be released book, 'Mrs. O: The Face of Fashion Democracy,' Tomer reveals some of Mrs. O's closely guarded fashion secrets through original photographs, sketches and illustrations. It also highlights glossy images of the first lady and President Barack Obama together on the campaign trail, at the White House and other events. It also shows photos of Sasha and Malia with starlit eyes in the foreground and the background.
"Michelle has great style and we carry great affection for her,'' Tomer, who graduated from Boston University in 2003 with a degree in mathematics, said in an interview with AOL Black Voices.

The 235-hardcover book also features commentary from fashion experts and close-ups of her popular and most talked about outfits, including the red and black Narciso Rodriguez dress she wore on election night, and the teal, v-neck, three-quarter sleeve, sheath dress by Chicago designer Maria Pinto that she wore at the Democratic National Convention. It also features images of brooches, dress patterns, and detailed descriptions of outfits such as the stunning violet cocktail dress with French knot embroidery by designer Jason Wu.
Tomer decided to write the book because of the great response to her blog, which attracts more than 2 million viewers from 221 countries. She launched the site in September 2008 following Obama's stellar performance at the DNC in Denver, she said.
"It was during the DNC when I went from interested in Michelle Obama to captivated,'' Tomer recalled. "That's when I decided to create a blog and I did. She looked phenomenal as she spoke on a national platform. Her feminine style and sensibility was so unexpected from what you expect women to wear in the political realm.''
Assuredly, readers will be wowed by the wealth of information in Tomer's book, uncovered without cooperation from the lady herself or that of one of her elusive stylists, Ikram Goldman of Chicago.
"I received a nice letter from the White House press office declining participation,'' Tomer said. "Ikram said she had gotten my letter and that she wasn't sure if she was going to be able do an interview because she was traveling. When I got back to her, she said she was not going to be able to do the interview.''
Still, Tomer is eager to have people read the book and walk away with a positive attitude about Michelle Obama, who has a magnetic aura of style and erudition.
"What I want people to take away from the book is that it gives a greater back-story to Michelle Obama,'' she said. "If she selects Jason Wu, you get his perspective, his take on what he put into the garment and how he wants women to feel in his clothes. The book also provides a lot of looks and different perspectives. You see a lot more details of dresses and close up of fabrics. I also think it just gives a great appreciation for the woman that is Michelle Obama. It's not just the clothes, but the woman wearing them.''When she's not blogging Tomer works in advertising for Bartle Bogle Hegarty in New York.

Mrs. O is an amazing and remarkable woman. She is inspiring and her fashion is not a statement per se, her fashion completes her true being, of intelligence and of good spirit. It's so refreshing to see, she is so real and down to earth. I am so proud of her and wish her all the great things life has to offer. Please do not compare her to Jackie O or anyone else, you do yourself a dis-service. Mrs. Obama is in a class of her own. Mrs. O, YOU GO GIRL!!!
