The tale of pain and triumph against the odds has generated Oscar buzz and created a red-carpet regular out of an unlikely Hollywood starlet: the fabulously and pleasingly plus-size Gabourey "Gabby" Sidibe:

The young actress is finally bringing curvaceous fashion and style to high-wattage awards shows and paparazzi-laden events, all the while displaying the correct and incorrect ways to play up above-average frames.
Let's take a look:

Gabby chose an orange crush gown for the Toronto Film Festival in September, accenting her look with minimalist jewelry and simple strappy silver sandals. The empire waist of the dress glides easily over her midsection, and the monochromatic color, mixed with the height of her shoes, serves to elongate her body, making her look tall and lean.

While Gabby stuck to the one-color rule, the bright sheen of this fabric catches light, making her already voluptuous frame look larger. Though the bright red color is alluring, the material of the dress adheres to every curve and is, unfortunately, not the most flattering choice.

The shiny sheen of this satin strapless cocktail similarly did nothing to flatter Gabby's shape, and the wrinkled texture and unforgiving silhouette take away from her eye-catching hair and makeup. The look, however, is still mod and festive with the boots.

She pulled it together for the Cinema Society & Tommy Hilfiger screening of 'Precious' in an outfit dominated by slimming black, accented by a sequined tunic that skimmed her curves without adding pounds. Her favorite cropped cardigan was also in effect, covering her shoulders and pulling the party look together.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, because you are a size3 or 23 does not make you healthy, some time we can be judgemental and hurtful when you youself dont feel good about self Gabby didnot look cheap or out of place she look confident,I am sure now that she is in the spotlight she will have the money and the time to make some physical changes if she want to. I feel she looks lovely and the clothes fit her not to thight just right , I am sure some of the writers who are making nasty comments need some help in some area like . Self evaluate first before you put another down

Wow !!!! What a bunch of idiots. While I agree that obesity is unhealthy, you have no idea what occurred in her life to make her a plus sized woman. I am a plus sized woman and I dress to impress. I do not wear tight clothes that accentuate my bulges but loose fitting quality clothing that flatters my form. There are a lot of smaller women squeezing into their clothes that accentuate the bulge or lack of that they do have a(muffin top, ass so flat they look like a stick). As a child I was always in the hospital with asthma and they gave me prednisone to treat it. Prednisone is a steroid and stays in your system for 3 months after your dosage ends. Who knew then that I would continue to gain weight as a result of the medication. So haters, wake up. THere are a lot of things/medications that one can take that can make you healthy on one front and make you gain weight on another. Gabby is beautiful inside and out. Get over it cuz right now, she's got the fame and the money that y'all wish you could have. As for the men, you can't handle a plus sized woman because your member is too short to reach. No woman wants to be with a man who is the size of her pinky !!!

Vicky - Marilyn Monroe was a size 14 in HER time. Dress sizes have changed since then. So, a size 14 in the 1960s isn't the same as a 14 in the 2000s. Ours has grown quite a bit. Also, I am not stick thin, but think that Gabby is extremely overweight and has a lot of health problems coming her way if she doesn't shed some pounds.

She's a beautiful young lady I do not see anything wrong with her. I know average and thin people who develop high blood pressure, high colestrol etc.hereditary I'm told. so what is that about.

Gabby is a beauitful black woman and her size doesn't alter that. She is very talanted and deserves being in the lime-light....some people need to stop being so shallow...it's not always about the exterior.
