If the person's outfit and overall comportment seem 'high class' people tend to believe the bag they're carrying is authentic. If, however, the person's clothes seem low quality, their bag is perceived to be a Chinatown creation:

In a follow up study, Gosline found that 46% of women who purchase fake bags end up purchasing the real item within two years.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT,
Many of those bags and other items you think are fake in places like Chinatown, are actually real. Designer bags such as Louis Vuitton are outsourced (meaning they are being manufactured in other countries for cheap). So the cost of making 10,000 bags in other countries will be far less as opposed to making them within the United States. Plus, If 20,000 bags are made and only 10,000 are shipped to the US, what happens to the extra 10,000 bags? The only major difference between a bag from Macy's and a bag from Canal St stems from the fact that a bag from Macy's has a Tax ID number(which it receives once bags are shipped to the US and sold in Dept. Stores). So, no matter who has what Louis bag, they (the bags) are probably both real.

This is in no way meant to insult you, but your comment makes it quite clear that you have never purchased an authentic designer bag. Once you've laid that wad of cash on the counter you can't help but notice the differences. By the way, if you're reading Hazel - No, the bag you bragged to me about stealing from the girl that pissed you off was not authentic, I don't care what's sewn in to the lining that bag was NOT authentic; and if it had been you probably would never have gotten away with it. If you know someone who owns an authentic bag you probably can't even steal something out of it without them knowing, if you got it, it was because they were threatened and had no choice.

I own a few fake bags since my loser ex-boyfriend destroyed a collection of about six authentic Coach bags, and a couple of pairs of Coach shoes. I do plan to buy one of the more expensive designer bags in the somewhat near future but for now, it's just a bag. When I'm ready for one it will be a statement of who I am and how far I'm willing to go to see to it that I have the things I want in life, LOL!

Shaiye, Zora you guys just don't get it.
These bags are very cheap to make overseas. If what I say don't make sense, Why are there no manufacturing plants in the US? Also, if you goto any designer bag outlet store, Why are those particular bags in those stores priced much less than those designer bags sold in dept. stores? I guess because those are fake too (yeah right LOL). Just because you pay alot of money for a bag does not mean its real, it just means you paid alot for that bag.

I don't care what anybody says, I think it is really stupid to pay hundreds of dollars for a purse. I'm sorry. Everybody is trying to be Oprah or Jay Z and know damn well they are just barely paying their bills. People need to stop being fake. It is a wonder why we as black people own few businesses compare to other races. It's alright to splurge on yourself when you got it like that, but come on people keep it real.

I have a very nice husband who insists on buying me these designer bags and I can tell you that there are differences in the fake bags and real ones. I own everything from Louis, Coach, to Dooney Bourke. I have examined some of the fakes and there are different degrees of 'fakeness'. You have the cheap, out-right fakes that are poorly made with cheap materials. Then you have what I call 'super-fakes'. These bags are virtually identical to their real counterparts. But, there is always something wrong with them. The lining may not be the right color. Or maybe the bottom of the bag will not have the proper pattern on it. The super-fakes will stand up upon a fast glance but when you feel them and really look at them they are fakes. A real Louis Vuitton or Dooney Bourke is very well made. I have Speedy's from both that I have had for 25 years. I take care of them so you can't tell how old they are. They have been rained on and carried quite a bit but they are still kicking. Your lucky if a fake one makes it two years. What I wouldn't do is invest in a Coach. I have five of them and I am not impressed with them. To cost what they do they are not that well made. I have heard that they REALLY are made in China. I wouldn't judge how real a person's bag was; I would be to worried about taking care of my own. If it's real to them then it's real to me. Who cares?

Fake it til you make it. We walk around carrying a purse with no money inside, we can't pay our bills on time, we don't tithe or give anything to anyone because we don't have it, we spent over 300.00 on a purse and then sit them on the floor or overstuff them with junk. Invest in your Life and stop being so materialistic, half of us dont even own our homes and live paycheck to paycheck.

I just can't spend hundreds of dollars on a purse. "I" would feel like I'm trying to impress people who I couldn't care less about. I see so many really nice/cute lesser named, real leather purses that cost way less then the brand names.
I am a homeowner and I have to think about things like when the water heater needs to be replaced or there is a leak in the roof. I'll be damned if I place the repairs or replacement cost on a credit card or worst, borrow money from my Momma!
I also think about when I am retired and want to travel. I don't want to have regrets thinking about the bull that I spent my money on. I can't help but add the I could have saved my money and purchased one of the cheaper model Lexus' or Mercedes, but I brought a Hyundai and I'm happy as can be. I'm just thinking of the long run and I don't want my children paying my utility bills or kicking in extra money so I can eat decently in my old age.
To each their own, do you. Personally, I have better things to do with my income.
