Unlike the fashion at the often staid and formal acting award shows, the red carpet wear at the Grammys is supposed to be a little more colorful. This year? Not so much. It seemed like most of the celebrities showed up to Sunday night's awards in somber black, and the ones who didn't chose neutrals, silver or white.
Then again, you also expect Grammy fashion to be a little more daring, and in that respect, certain artists -- think
Lady Gaga (of course) and
Ciara -- definitely went out on a limb.
Click through to read more about the red carpet fashion at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards and to see what
Beyonce,
Ciara,
Jennifer Hudson,
Mary J. Blige and more were wearing.

Bold in Black
From the neck up, the
Ciara looks beautiful, with soft understated makeup and a low ponytail. From the neck down, we're not sure what's happening. Does this lace Givenchy jumpsuit look kind of like really expensive pajamas?
Grammy winner
India.Arie sparkled in this simple gown, but she could have done without the purse strap across her body. Aren't there assistants for that?
This futuristic black (recognizing the theme?) dress showed off
Jennifer Hudson's long legs and ever-strinking waist. And she threw in a little cleavage for good measure. With the bangs, high ponytail and sky-high platform pumps, it was a good look for the new mom.
This Miss America pageant was Saturday night (congrats Miss Virginia!), and although
Melanie Fiona looks lovely, she she looks like she'd fit in more with that crowd in this ball gown than with her fellow artists at the Grammys.
Ledisi scores points for rocking the one-shoulder trend and showing some sassy leg on the red carpet.
Nudes and Neutrals
Multiple Grammy nominee and winner
Beyonce didn't wear what we
predicted, but her form-fitting, low-cut Stephane Rolland with piping details fits her style perfectly.
Like Beyonce,
Keri Hilson nixed black in favor of nude. She looks amazing in this Dolce & Gabbana mermaid dress.
Rihanna looks ethereal in white, but we're not convinced this was the perfect style of dress for the singer. What do you think?
Pop of Color
Grammy veteran Mary J. Blige gets props for for actually wearing color! The bright, bold hue and curve-hugging style work well and made MJB stand out.
No Words...
Is there really anything to say about Lady Gaga's (rumored) Armani creation, which she accessorized with a weird metal pointy star, yellow hair and sparkly panties? I just wonder how she sat in it.
Who do you think was best dressed? Who should have rethought their Grammy outfit.

Out of the Grammy's Red Carpet best dressed, I chose Jennifer Hudson and Keri Hilson. The dresses's were on POINT! IT wasn't to much and it wasn't too little but JUST RIGHT! I normally dislike outfits Kerri wears? I don't know what in the hell Ciara was wearin? Ciara always wants to outdo others but looked on this night SILLY. Lady Goo Goo is always out there with her outrageous outfits. I wasn't feelin her dress either!
Mary J's dress was a nice color and style but wished she wore a shawl over that tat she had on her arm? I feel, a tat takes away from a nice formal dress. Beyonce looked like she couldn't breath in that dress. I hated the style and the color. I hated Rhianna's dress and color. Her hair color is not the right color for her complexion. She looked like an OSTRICH. I'm sorry, Ledisi looked like she was just coming out of a shower? The outfit looked to me like a (robe). Her make-up and hair was on point. I wasn't feelin the off the shoulder look on her? Melanie Fiona's dress was too formal for this occasion.
Last, I didn't like the straps on the dress India wore? The black purse looked tacky across her body. The dress didn't say too much?

Kelly Rowland easily.. easily out-beautys any & all women in attendance. She doesn't realize just how blessed she is. That wig she wore is atroctious.. just totally unfortunate. BLESSED will be the day that my sisters stop being ashamed of their hair texture. I hope that I am around to see the day that wigs/weaves & other phoney & damaging things sisters use on their hair are abandonded by us as a whole.
Gotta add that, I just LOVE the tumbling down & breaking of Taylor Swift's grammy, LOL.. VERY symbolic.

They all looked fabulous and on point. Thank goodness my sisters are fashion forward not backward. If you don't know anything about fashion you shouldn't even comment.

I agree, They looked good. I did like Beyonce dress the best. I like dresses that are plain color but have nice detail. I am very proud of all my sisters for looking so good.

Has anybody notice, when Rhianna had that jet black hair color, her skin complexion was real light? Now, with this reddish blonde hair-color her skin tone is darker? She should stop experimenting with different hair colors and stick to her own natural hair color. Rhianna in my opinion, can't dress. sing, or dance!
