How to Wear Short Shorts

Who wears short shorts? Well, apparently Beyoncé does.

Queen B has been spotted in the streets sporting what's sure to be one of the hottest trends for spring and summer. She typically pairs her cutoffs with sky-high heels, but the look might be a bit too provocative for the everyday gal. You've been lunging away in the gym all winter and now your legs are ready to be revealed, but exactly how do you pull off this look? The key to this trend is to keep the rest of your outfit simple and clean. Below are five ways to wear short shorts while keeping it cute and classy.

Proper fit:
Victoria's Secret The Hipster Short ($29.50, victoriassecret.com)

Short is in, but anything that's too form fitting is a bit tacky (just think camel toe or booty cheeks hanging out). A general rule is the shorter you go, the more relaxed and loose the fit should be. Go for a size that doesn't cling to you like skinny jeans.

Flowy top:
Embroidered Flutter Tunic ($19.80, forever21.com)

A low-cut option would be a big no no. Since you're exposing so much of your legs, opt for a top that offers fuller coverage.

Flats:
Citrus Python Flats ($59, chineselaundry.com)

A cute flat is a better option than stilettos and keeps the overall feel more casual. Not only are they functional for running around town, there are options out there that are just as chic as high heels.

Wedges:
Joan & David Kepler Wedge ($59.95, dsw.com)

While flats are optimal, a classy wedge is a great choice for the short-statured chica who requires a bit of a lift. It doesn't have the same va va voom appeal of a stiletto, but it still gives the appearance of longer legs.

Tights:
Black Opaque Tights ($16, topshop.com)

You either love or hate shorts over tights, but they're an ideal alternative for the woman who may be a little too conservative for short shorts. A lightweight pair of tights is great for chilly spring nights. Because you're adding coverage, you can even up the sex appeal of your shoe selection.
