The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) selected supermodel Iman as its 2010 Fashion Icon Honoree. Iman is the first woman of color to receive the award, which will be presented to her on June 7. The model-turned-mogul will join ranks with past notable winners, including Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman and C.Z. Guest.

This coveted title is awarded to an individual whose signature style has had a profound influence on fashion. The Somalian beauty was discovered by photographer Peter Beard in 1975, and for the last 35 years, Iman has stayed on the forefront of fashion, inspiring new generations of catwalk superstars with her grace and beauty.

Famed designer Diane von Furstenberg and president of the CFDA called a surprised Iman, who was unaware that the award existed, with the news.

In recognition of Iman's honor, Barneys New York Creative Director Simon Doonan made a one-of-kind window installation that celebrates Iman's 14-year run as a high-fashion model through a collage of images and quotations from luminaries such as Oprah Winfrey, Valentino, and Anna Wintour. All were asked to complete the phrase "Iman is . . . "
