Models that ripped the runway last Thursday in the Sudanese Next Top Model Fashion Show were later rounded up and detained by police in the nation's capitol of Khartoum. According to
Reuters, the fashion show – the first public event of its kind – featured both male and female models on the catwalk, a big no-no for the Muslim state, which enforces separation of the genders. Sudan's fashion shows are generally private events.
"They came to the club after the show and arrested between 20 and 30 people -- not just models, but people doing the makeup, the people who provided the clothes," said a participant. The majority of those arrested were released Friday, except for six models who are facing unspecified charges.
The models were said to be modeling wedding dresses, traditional Sudanese clothes, suits and garments from local shops.

While I applaud them for the risk they took, I do hope that norms in Sudan change to become more inclusive.

I do not appreciate this type of treatment with those models. They do have their human rights. And please don't make it a religious matter. You can not blame the whole community for this.
I hope this issue will be shot out very soon and those models will get justice.

edujustice2010: @ Skeewee; if Blacks had conformed to the discrimination laws of the USA and not just the Southern States, we would still be under their feet now! So don't come with that shit about they know their laws. Laws can and are wrong! The ppl who writethem are looking out for themselves, not you or others like you. Stand up for their rights!!!!!!!!

Sudan does not need to emulate the vain, egotistical, self-centered behavior of the west. Let them keep their traditions. We are not free in amerika. We are controlled and various methods are used to distract us from what is being done to us by the government. fashion shows, models and other empty pursuits are just some of the ways they use. It is esteem deflating to single out and make somebody feel unique and special over everybody else because they are physically attractive.
