High-End Designers to Carry Plus-Size Clothing

A few weeks ago news broke that Saks Fifth Avenue would start carrying plus-sized clothing by high end brands like Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, YSL, Alexander McQueen, and Prada.

Not too long after, international brand Marc Jacobs also unofficially announced it would start carrying clothing in sizes larger than a size 14. According to the Guardian, Marc Jacobs president Robert Duffy tweeted that the company is in the early stages of planning a plus-size range.
Though 34 percent of Americans over 20 are considered overweight or obese, designers historically hesitated to create big sizes because they thought larger women didn't spend money on pricey designer clothes. But with a growing number of plus sized yet stylish women like Mo'Nique, Gabourey Sidibe, and Queen Latifah on red carpets and the increasing popularity of stores like Torrid, it's clear that catering to this demographic is a sure way to build a brand and increase its bottom line.
What do you think?
