Michelle Obama's Indonesian Look for Less

Comments (19)

Michelle Obama and President Obama left India on Monday hand-in-hand for Indonesia, the next stop on their official East Asian tour. Once they arrived, it wasn't long before the First Lady was making headlines for her sophisticated style.

Even though Mrs. Obama is not known for risqué outfits, she must have read up on local Indonesian customs, which can be pretty conservative when it comes to fashion. During the day, Michelle kept her look appropriately modest, choosing to pair a red patterned dress that would normally reveal her legs, with some loose fitting black pants.

But leave it to Michelle to up the "glam factor" when the time is right. Her Derek Lam gown, which was a cross between a tribal-esque ikat print and classic snakeskin, wowed guests at the Indonesian state dinner. The First Lady still managed to maintain the appropriate rules of Indonesian fashion. Michelle added extra glamour by adding simple stud earrings and an exotic bib necklace by Ranjana Khan. As usual, Mrs. Obama's style stole the show.

Many women are afraid to mix two bold items together, but Michelle Obama proves that it's a risk worth taking. To replicate Michelle's stately look for less, try these options:

1.) Newport News Animal Print Dress ($59, newport-news.com) 2.) Hive and Honey Gold Stud Earrings ($22, piperlime.com) 3.) Charlotte Russe Studded Belt ($9.50, charlotterusse.com) 4.) Chico's Aleca Bibb Necklace ($68, chicos.com)
