New Year's Eve is just a few days away and that means it's time to create a new set of New Year's resolutions. Instead of the typical weight loss resolution, why not make a goal to work on your fashion game?
We've all made a few style mistakes this year, but now's the time to put those bad looks to rest and start planning your hot new year of style. Here's Black Voices' list of the tackiest fashion trends we suggest everyone leaves behind in 2011.

Unless you are Lady Gaga or making a 'Single Ladies' video for YouTube, it's best to leave the professional dance gear like unitards to the pros. Most women aren't built like Beyonce, so for the rest of us, skintight unitards will only highlight every single lump and bump we are desperately trying to hide. In 2011, pair last year's unitard with a cute miniskirt to get that sexy, sassy look you were going for. Your thighs will thank you!

It's okay to show a little skin, but it's not okay to show your goods, or -- in Kelly Rowland's case -- your girls. Super sheer items like blouses or dresses where your bra or other undergarments are clearly visible, fall into this category. Not only are these looks too revealing, but they can make you look a bit sleazy. When the New Year rolls around, add a simple nude or black camisole or slip under your sheer piece and leave a little to the imagination.

Let's be clear -- leggings are a really great fashion staple. They are perfect for those days when you want to switch up your look, because they work great under garments like skirts, tunics, oversize shirts and sweaters. However, what they don't do is work as pants. That's right, no matter how many times you've seen it happen or how tempted you've been, NEVER wear leggings as pants! The fact is, most leggings are made of lightweight, thin material, which is a lot more like tights than the thick structured material of a pant. So in addition to giving the world a front row seat to view your behind, tummy, and lady parts, you are often letting everyone see right through to your underwear, which isn't cute. If you must wear a body hugging pant in 2011, try a jeggings -- the perfect mix of jeans and leggings.

When peep toe boots first came out in early 2010, many women were intrigued by the mash up of their favorite shoes: boots, peep toes and high heels. But as time went on, the complete impracticality of these shoes became clear. They aren't boots, so they won't keep your feet warm, and they aren't fancy enough to be worn as a heel. They're simply a failed attempt of combining two very practical and stylish looks into one. For 2011, keep it simple and stick to one type of footwear.

Recently, there's been a popular explosion of furry winter hats that look like you have an animal -- complete with ears, nose and paws -- sitting on top of your head. We're all for the idea of being a kid at heart, but these are just silly and immature. Once you're past the age of 12, leave this style for the kids -- or Halloween for that matter -- and get some grownup head gear.

You should add, baggy pants worn so low you can't even walk normally. Come on people!

I don't know why you suggested jeggings. They are about as worse as leggings. And people are commenting complaining about baggy pants. How about we end the trend of skinny jeans? Me and Women. Women look disproportionate with all this going on up top but extra skinny jeans, and guys just look wrong.
Plus I think this blog is wayy to celebrity oriented, because I've never seen a unitard, super sheer outfit, or animal hat where I live. Talk about things affecting us average Black folks, like the skinny jeans fad. Or the paying-to-much-for-a-fad fad. I give Polo 2 more years tops before the media switches us to a different expensive fad.

I agree with you 100%. This was way too celebrity oriented. I have to say that I am so glad someone else agrees that leggings are NOT pants. I cant believe that parents let their daughters wear leggings and t-shirts to school. I live in Los Angeles and it is way out of control. It is a very sleazy look.

THERE ARE MANY THINGS WE WOULD NOT WANT TO WEAR OURSELVES...BUT I THINK "ANYTHING GOES AND TO EACH HIS OR HER OWN" WHEN NIGHTCLUB AND PARTYING TIME COMES.
I'D LIKE TO SEE MICRO MINI SKIRTS TO COME BACK for summer wear...
WHOEVER PREFERS VICTORIAN WEAR IS WITHIN THEIR RIGHT BUT I THINK NAKED LEGS AND AS MUCH OF IT AS POSSIBLE IS BRUTALLY SEXY

I dont want to see PJ's worn to the store, or eye brows shaved off and crooked ones penciled in, nor un-natural colored hair, and women dressed like hookers and men dressed like "broke pimps", if we going to role play, how about KINGS AND QUEENS, PRINCE AND PRINCESS, that would be a change, and how about a little RESPECT to that person next to you.

Oh muy guuuuudness Tyrone, you are soooo right about those phunky, nasty, stank ass pjs that are worn in the neighborhood. Slipping into a pair of pants is so easy. Why come outside in the same thing that you worn to bed? That's just nasty. After being outside in your sleepwear, you return home and take all the germs from the outside to your bed. Nasty, just plain nasty.
