This Mother's Day give your mom some credit for her fashion sense, since it's pretty that likely most of the styles she wore when she was your age are now current trends. Scour your mom's closet for a cool accent to your next outfit.
Silk Scarves:
Maybe you thought your mom was being too "matchy matchy" when she color coordinated her blouse and scarf, but why not update the overly color coordinated look by choosing a bright silk scarf to a neutral top. You'll be able to find one as high end as these Pucci and Missoni scarves, or as inexpensive as a 99 cent scarf at your local beauty supply store.

Stockings:
Many women of a certain age still refrain from wearing bare legs to work. Stockings are their best friends and they can be yours too if you pick the right pair. There are so many different options available to choose from. Check out any department store to browse their selection and visit Urban Outfitters to purchase these two pairs.

Blouses:
The ribbon blouse is so ladylike and isn't only for women over the age of 40. Women of all ages can wear this blouse and look stylish. You can pick up the silk Raoul blouse from Shopbop.com, and the blue blouse from Forever21.com.

Big Hats:
Whether she wears one to block the sun at the beach or to look stylish in church, a big hat is a staple. Get in touch with your inner-Sunday girl and sport a dramatic hat to add flair to your outfit. The straw crotchet hat is from Forever21, and the striped hat is Juicy Couture.

Although my Mother passed away 4 years ago, I still am impacted by her sense of style. She was a Southern woman who never felt completely dressed up without Hat,Gloves,Bag and Heels. To this day whenever I go to church I follow her simple rule for Sunday attire. I even have some of my Mother's "Sunday Hats" which are still quite fashionable. I intend to wear one this Sunday to honor her memory on Mother's Day! She was a wonderful hard working Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother and friend to all in our middle class neighborhood. God bless you Sallie Hayes-Williams. My mother, Nancy Tolbert Robinson was from small town Charles Town, WVA, but she had a New York sense of style!
She taught us the virtues of classic styles (you would have thought she was dressing British Royalty), but she also taught us to appreciate wild and unusual color combinations and above all, to develop our own sense of style! I just bought a truly crazy bag - teal blue paisley on one side and leopard print on the other, which I plan to wear with a classic pearl grey pants suit and a blouse which picks up the colors in the paisley!
Mom died in 1982, but I can sense her smiling down at me when I dress in something wildly colorful and stylish! As a 66 year old cancer survivor, I'm gonna "bling, bling, bling" till I die. PEACE!!
