After a secret, quickie wedding last November, singer Monica and former L.A. Laker Shannon Brown wed for a second time July 9.
And this time, the R&B star, 30, and NBA hunk, 25, pulled out all the stops as they exchanged vows before 340 guests (including Missy Elliot and bridesmaid Ciara) at Vibiana, a church-turned-event space. Organized by celeb wedding planner Mindy Weiss, the romantic bash featured a 40-piece gospel choir, a blue color scheme and a menu including short ribs, Fatburgers and a lemon horse-and-carriage cake.

While so many children in African nations have no clean water if barely any water to drink...While African Americans are loosing what little economic gains they have achieved..the last thing I want to read about is some girl from the hood actually having the insensitivity to parade around in a million dollar wedding gown..That's as stupid as the issues of Essence Mag promoting fashion way out of reach for the average working AA woman..Can we pleeeze get in touch in real time with the reality of our world wide economy.
That million dollars could have dug a lot of wells for clean water and fed a lot of hungry people and Monica you could have sent a $1000.00 on a wedding gown and still looked sensational.BTW ..that bridal shoppe saw you coming.

1. the wedding dress was not a million if you read it it said She accessorized the stunning creation with $1 million in Joel Rosenberg jewels. Ppl are so quick to judge and criticize when they dont have the facts straight. Honestly she probably didnt have to pay for the jewels, he probably gave/loaned then just to get his work out there(you do know designers do that all the time). Most middle/upper class women spend $1000.00 on a dress if that is the one they want for their perfect day so why would an entertainer who has been in the game for many years who is married to a sports star only spend that much. Then where does it say she should dig wells or feed many when no other star or entertainer is required to do so. What wasnt mentioned was that she auctioned/donated the proceeds of her reception dress to the susan Korman cancer center to assist in research for finding a cure for cancer. That part of the story was conveniently left out so that judgemental ppl like yourself could have a field day with this one. please google it and look at the live interview and taping of the wedding/reception the reporter mentioned it all and interviewed her. Monica often does things to help empower young women and gives back to the community. It is not her responsibility to fix the world, this is her day and this is how she chose to spend her money to make her day exactly how she wanted it. I am sure if you had the money that she and shannon had you would not be spending it to dig a million ditches, feed every hungry person in the world or pay off defaulted loans and foreclosed homes for those that cant pay theirs. You would use it as you wanted to which is exactly what they did. Can we please be happy for each other.

I couldn't agree with you more; I hate to say it, but we as black people when we get more we spend more and people no matter what color they are seem to forget those who are in need. Why would anyone want to spend that much money on a dress; I hope the marriage last forever.
I'm not saying people shouldn't spend their money the way they want, but when God blesses us he expects us to bless someone else, I'm not saying she isn't, and I know she works hard for her money, but how can you spend that much for a dress. To each his own.

I pray that this marriage LASTS? Monica just dated her Husband last year after he was in her video and in moths or weeks got engaged, then married REAL QUICK. It was months before the video last year, Monica had just gotten out of a long time relationship. The bad thing about it, all her relationships in the past have been temporary and the men she dated and ex-fiance' were thugs and no good. I thought the top part of her one-sided wedding gown was nice until it got to the bottom. It was too full and TOO MUCH. That's my opinion.

I agree with bahminj & virginia when these starsor celebs have these hot shot weddings & sometimes they last but a minute then you read filing for DIVORCE just in Kim Kardasian mother is having her face done for the ocassion and her wedding is suppose to be the bomb I say waiting to go off when that one doesn't last she just meet this guy and marriage she went with Reggie Bush you could say a lifetime and what we'll see as they all fall down crying a river over dry land

It's nice to have a nice beautiful wedding but a MILLION DOLLARS? I'm tired of these celebs, singers, ect... doing it OVER THE TOP. Lala, KardTRASHIANS, and many other Celebs have done it. You can have a nice wedding without all the unnecessary expensive flashy things. I'm just saying? Some of that money could have went to where needed? Someone up on here had said the same thing. Just like Monica flashed her BIG engagement ring on Twitter to let EVERYBODY know. I thought it was childish and there was no need to flash it all like that. It was unnecessary. I don't like when people are materialistic and caught up. I say, you can still have a beautiful less expensive wedding by keeping it simple & keeping it real.
I pray that their marriage will last and Monica finally is happily in love. I hope her child excepts this man as their Step Dad. I feel the dating, engagement, and marriage was TOO SOON and was too much to take in from her children after the fact, Monica and their dad (Rocko) split up last year?

Why do people not mind spending other people's money, but refuse to pay the price upfront to make their own and do what ever they want with what they make?
No one saw Monica struggling to get where she ended up and that is so unfortunate for those who spend their lives hoping for the lead role in a TP production of the girl who did nothing with h life and ends up being the hero in the end instead of the one who worked hard to get the success.
If you think Monica or anyone else should spend their lives donating and making wells, then be sure you yourself have done what you should have down with the opportunity you are given in this country and do be the lead in the well building donation giving fund.
Learn the rule of 72, save your money instead df it burning a hole in your hand as soon as you get it, be positive, stop hating on others who have and wishing things were easier, but wish you were better yourself and get to work on you!
