From WWD:
For most models, a spread in Vogue is nothing short of a pipe dream. For plus-size models, it's even more of a rarity. But Marquita Pring, who fluctuates between a size 12 and 14, has already been there, done that. Now the 21-year-old New Yorker has a couple other things to tick off her bucket list. "I want to have my own tapas place someday. In an ideal world, I would just peace out to an island somewhere and open one on the beach," says Pring, who's been repped by Ford since 2009.

"We'd have hummus, guacamole and fried ice cream." Since posing for V magazine's plus-size issue last year, her star has been on the rise. She walked in Jean Paul Gaultier's spring show and then landed that Vogue Italia cover this past June. Here, the young model chats about those experiences, as well as padding up, shooting with Steven Meisel and her secret meeting with Marc Jacobs.

I was just telling someone on Essence.com is a ton of light skinned chicks being hyped as usual (Halle, Rhianna, Keys, Keri Hilson and Beyonce) then I click on BV and wa la here we go again......
Like I posted on Oprah's site about Dove ads I DON'T want to see heavy women in ads. When I grew up watching Iman, Grace Jones, Naomi etc. (I'm tall as well) I wanted my clothes to fall off my body like them so that's why I think I've always stayed in shape. I don't aspire to be "plus size" in my clothes. I don't want to see starving models but I don't admire fat ones either!!!! My daughter's in their 20s aren't wearing 12s/14s. Like Michelle Obama they MOVE and are small.

You know that may be all well and dandy for YOU AND YOUR DAUGHTERS but not all women are TALL OR THIN. Working out has a lot to do with it, but you don't know where REAL women come from, households, mothers modeling behavior, education, self esteem etc. How dare you bash a full figured woman! Understanding that we are all DIFFERENT is why the industry is starting to finally wake up and change. Women of all sizes, shapes, colors etc need to be celebrated, not just one kind. The world is way to diverse for that. My suggestion to YOU is not look at curves, since its obvious you may not have any, keep looking at models back in the 80's and be outdated. Real women are being showcased and I say "amen" to that.
*from a curvy chick who EXERCISES!
Geesh

What a humongous HYPOCRITE you are. You got nothing but negatives to say about lighter-skinned girls being given a little love, but turn right around and insult plus size models. I'll bet you are unattractive as hell, since you don't seem to
like ANY other females, and are probably just mad
because they all look better than you. Its all right, though, it really is, because ugly people
get to go to heaven too. So there will be a place
for you............................somewhere in the
back of heaven.

I am very glad to see that there are some people in this lifetime who do believe that it is not all about being skin and bones that you can be plus size and work the run way or just model and feel the same as a much smaller female it's society that is to blame for alot of the stereotype and ignorance being displayed and to the Person What??? im goin to pray for you because it is people like you who give anykind of women a bad name modeling has all different shapes and sizes and im sure u should know that.

It's even a greater rarity to see dark skinned black women (some who are absolutely beautiful) to be seen on any magazine cover, INCLUDING Essence, and Ebony. The politics of color is quite strong in America even among black Americans. You are more apt to see a dark skinned model in Europe than in this freakin country.
I think out of necessity you will see more "plus size" women as models as American women are becoming larger and larger. Have you walked down the street lately and see how hugh the younger generation of women are? It is extreme: Either looking anorexic (sp) are hugh.
