The highly anticipated video for 'Telephone' by Lady Gaga and Beyoncé has finally hit the small screen with an electric mix of pop-culture goodness and fierce fashion. The 9-and-a-half minute long clip is full of eye-catching strong-shoulder dresses, unitards, studded bikinis and hot shoes.

Let's take a look at some of the best shots.

The video opens with jailbird Gaga in a high-shouldered dress festooned with prison stripes, being led to her cell by two intimidatingly buff women. A seductively low neck reveals that Gaga is wearing star-shaped nipple pasties, which are revealed, along with her barely-there underpinnings, when she is eventually stripped and pushed face down in her barren cell.
Scene two shows Gaga decidedly overdressed for the prison yard in oversized chains, a strapless black catsuit, and a pair of cigarette sunglasses that are literally smoking. The yard girls' surprised stares intimate that while Gaga looks slightly ridiculous, something fabulous may just happen.

Though our Lady in waiting was stripped of her clothes in the opening scene, she somehow managed to hold on to Chanel Shades and a badass leather studded jacket (the rest of her wardrobe including plebian hair rollers apparently didn't make the cut-- she is wearing large soda cans to hold up her 'do).

Beyoncé finally makes her debut after a dance number featuring inmates in stockings, bikinis, and lace up patent leather booties. Bey bails Gaga out of jail rocking a deep plum lipstick and a short banged style.
Bey takes us back to her Texas roots in the next scene, featuring Tyrese, in a bright yellow close-fit, low cut dress, and matching cowboy hat. Though not as daring as Gaga, she shines in her own way.
She brings it back in a following scene, where she prances around a technicolor motel room in a Wonder Woman-esque blue jacket and matching short shorts.
Gaga takes the 'Telephone' name literally in the following scene, where she, as a waitress, has a headpiece shaped hairstyle.
Then the ladies join forces in an 'American' themed dance sequence, with both pantsless ladies in stars and stripes.
The oeuvre d'art concludes with the girls flankinga truck in long flowing gowns and headpieces that seem reminiscent of conservative burqas. Their decidedly 'covered up' outfits stand in stark contrast to the video's previous sartorial choices, but don't be fooled. They promise the story will continue.

The video, directed by Jonas Akerlund, has been called a, "true cinematic masterpiece."

If you were watching the red carpet for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, you may have noticed 'Precious' stars Gabourey Sidibe, Mariah Carey, and Mo'Nique, and executive producer Oprah Winfrey wearing bedazzling blue gowns for the event:


Oscar winner Mo'Nique said the color was a tribute to Hattie McDaniel, the first black woman to win an Oscar for her supporting role in Gone With the Wind. Mo'Nique explained, "The reason...I have on this royal blue dress is because it's the color...Hattie McDaniel wore in 1940 when she accepted her Oscar. The reason...I have this gardenia in my hair (is) it is the flower that Hattie McDaniel wore when she accepted her Oscar. So, for you, Ms. Hattie McDaniel, I feel you all over me, and it's about time that the world feels you all over them."



Oprah, who seemed to pick her blue dress by chance, said, "That was just some sort of divine synchronicity, I guess from Hattie McDaniel...All the black women in blue, I don't know what happened."

Whether by divine intervention, as an ode to Precious author Sapphire, or strictly by chance, blue is a color that is supremely flattering on varying body types and skin colors, as witnessed at the awards. Impress at your next formal affair with a handful of electric choices:

The 42-year-old is outspoken and she needs a gown that won't outshine, but rather complements her larger-than-life personality. At the Golden Globes she went for a look that embodied a Grecian goddess. For the Oscars, we hope Mo'Nique seizes the day like an Elizabethan queen to show the world she's a feminine force to be reckoned with. We saw her hairy leg peek-a-boo at the Globes. On Oscar night, Mo'Nique should be regal and opt to flash her legs only for her husband's viewing pleasure. Prediction: Sidibe's powerful performance in 'Precious; has catapulted the relatively-unknown actress into the spotlight. The 26-year-old star can't afford to make red-carpet blunders if she plans to sustain the momentum of her career after the Oscars are over. This is her time to shine. Sidibe needs to make an unforgettable entrance Sunday night, because who's to say she'll be given another role worthy of an Oscar nod? Black is timeless and classic. We love this black crepe satin gown with lace detail from Edition by Georges Chakra's fall 2010 collection recently shown at New York Fashion Week. A legion on beautiful A-list actresses attended the 3rd Annual Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel in California. Some debuted new looks while others stuck to their signature aesthetics. Let's take a look at the top talent from last night:
Joy Bryant went for rocker chic in a sequined skirt, opaque tights, a button down top, and leather jacket. She flaunted her style with a multichain necklace and sunglasses to shield the camera flashes, and slicked her long hair down into a low ponytail. Joy Bryant typically goes for a more casual look, so it's good to see her all dressed up--she's literally glowing. Hot!


Oscar winning actress Gabourey Sidibe went for cute and safe in a green knee length gown and black cardigan. Flats are always comfy, but I'd love to see her try a stiletto or wedge heel for one of her many red carpet events.

Zoe Saldana never disappoints in the couture department, and shined in a ruffle applique flutter dress with nude shoes. She looks young, yet classy and sophisticated, and her pop of red lip is subtle yet sultry. Hot!

Serena Williams went for a nude look as well, and accented a new bright haircut with a cap sleeve ivory dress with embellished shoulders with matching strappy sandals. Her new hair color is doing wonders and is by far the highlight of her look. Hot!
Queen Latifah also joined the neutral team in a form fitting white suit with dangling necklaces and smart nude pumps. I would have loved to see her do a bit more with her hair--perhaps tendrils of curls? But overall, a hot look for the Queen.

Jada Pinkett Smith channeled her inner flower child in a drape caftan belted at the waist and chunky platform studded sandals. The metallic sheen of her dress played up her bronze glow and fun updo--somehow she managed to look 20 years younger!
Both Mary J. Blige and Taraji P. Henson broke up the neutral dress trend with turquoise and purple form fitting one shoulder dresses. The frocks show off their athletic builds and shine in a sea of beiges and creams.

And lastly, Keri Hilson debuted a raven haired look along with a strapless corset top, satin pants, and a metallic bolero. I'm liking this mature look for Keri--hot!

New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom was filled with curvaceous models, athletes, hungry media and fashion misfits, for BET's 2010 Rip the Runway show Saturday, but the only thing that truly "ripped the runway" might have been rapper Trina's thigh-baring silver mini dress.

BET annual fashion show attempts to bring together today's most innovative designers of color with the hottest musical acts - fell slightly short this year. Hosted by Pooch Hall, the actor who played Derwin on CW's 'The Game,' and Lil Wayne protege Nicki Minaj, who both did their best, the show seemed to lacked its primary focus: fashion.

BET, however, does earn a gold star for production and musical entertainment, but with the exception of the finale showing of Tracy Reese, the show was in need of more fashion!

There was an athletic line called Protege and a series of monokinis by designer Keva Johnson, but the fashions showcased were not as stimulating as one would hope musical performances. It was the energy of artist like Ludacris, who was first to take the stage with his newest single 'My Chic Bad,' ft. Nicki Minaj who brought the show to life.

Luda dressed simply in jeans, shades, and leather baseball-inspired bomber, rocked the stage with Nicki Minaj, who changed hats from host to performer. In a bright pink wig, black lip, and one piece black-n-white psychedelic print bodysuit, Nicki's stage persona had the women envying while the men drooled. Their opening performance set the level of anticipation and livened the crowd.



Following Ludacris' second performance, 'How Low Can You Go' Estelle and reggae artist Kardinal Offishall creatively took the stage for a circus-themed performance. Estelle, dressed beautifully in a black Gavin Douglas cocktail dress, performed her collabo, 'Freak,' with Kardinal, while models also dressed in Douglas designs, made their way down the runway. Well, not every model made it down the runway. It didn't go unnoticed when Rosci, host of BET's 106 and Park, almost toppled over when she tripped on her chain-mail dominatrix-esque train when exiting the runway. Despite the slip up, the show went on and featured more performances from B.O.B and Bruno Mars, who sang to the women who were "size sexy." Souljah Boy turned it all the way up for the athletic wear presentation. Next came a performance from "million dollar girl" Trina, whose little-to-the-imagination dress stole the attention from the fashions that strutted up and down the runway. The taping ended with a song by the eclectic Janelle Monae, who dressed in a crisp black pants suit, bow tie and her signature bouffant up-do. Tracy Reese, a Bryant Park vet, provided a finale of fashion when she sent her romant and whimsical designs down the runway. The hautess designs by far featured many soft flower prints on loose-fitting tops and dresses. Usually all is well that ends well, but decide for yourself when BET airs the full taping of the show Monday, March 15 at 10 EST.

You might think the NAACP Image Awards were all about 'Precious,' which won in most of the categories it and its actors were nominated in. But at BV on Style, they were a little bit about the fashion, too. The celebrities, who seemed split over whether this show is a floor-length gown affair or a flirty cocktail dress situation, came dressed to impress.

Jill Scott looked amazing in a form-fitting sparkling knee-length shift, winner Gabourey Sidibe went retro in a flapper-inspired number and icon Cicely Tyson wore a gender-bending pantsuit that was flattering and unique. Hostess Anika Noni Rose had a few outfit changes (many of them involved some generous cleavage). Our favorite was this yellow, flowing gown.

Sexy at 76, Cecily Tyson say no to the dress and wore this sophisticated pantsuit instead. It worked for us.

We like Gabby Sidibe in flirty short dresses like this tiered blue-gray number she paired with a navy wrap.

Gabrielle Union's mini with bell sleeves had a retro vibe. The look worked for her.
How sensational did Jill Scott look in this body-conscious blue dress? The new mom blew us away!
So what if Keri Baby is looking a tad bit overdressed compared to some of her fellow red carpet comrades? The dress is fierce and so is Miss Hilson.

Regina King has arms Michelle Obama would die for. But this outfit, which reminds us a bit of a bridesmaid dress, doesn't seem like the ideal way to highlight her amazing figure.
Taraji is giving face serious face in this photo, and she's wearing blue, which was sort of the color of the night. She looks amazing, as usual, but we would have liked to have seen something a little more exciting from the red carpet vet.

Vogue Italia proves its at the head of a progressive movement, recently launching websites separately celebrating black and curvy girls.

Vogue Black takes a look at Tyra Banks' style, features a video of model Tolula Adeyemi and has an article about taking care of natural hair styles.
The site also boasts stills from Vogue Italia's celebrated Black and Black Barbie issues.


On the curvy site, the Italian edition celebrates the chic of voluptuous stylistas like Crystal Renn, America Ferrera, and Lizzie Miller.


It seems strange that a country like Italy, which is not as diverse as the United States, somehow beat American Vogue to the punch. African-Americans have been complaining for years about the lack of multiracial representation in national magazines. It took a small European offshoot to get the ball rolling.

Even though Italian Vogue has made a laudable effort, both sites need a lot of work before they can live up to their names. Vogue Black contains only one beauty article and lots of pictures. Vogue Curvy is very much the same. Can we get some substance?

Editors at Jezebel.com recently completed their biannual report on Fashion Week runway diversity, and the numbers were quite bleak:

According to the article, a mere 16% of all the models who worked during New York Fashion Week were non-white.

In 2007, when Jezebel first started conducting its diversity surveys, fashion show runways were 100% white. Over the years, catwalks have gotten more diverse, but they still don't reflect the true demographics of America (According to the Census Bureau, the United States is 75% white).
If a brand doesn't use a model of color, will you stop purchasing their products? Does this issue matter to you?

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, with its dozens of collections, hundreds of celebrity sightings and even more emerging trends, can be tough to follow. But now that it's over, the only thing you really want to know is what trends to look out for and what fads to avoid, right? We've broken down the eight most interesting looks from the week and split them down the middle: looks we loved and the ones we definitely don't need to see again (even though we're bound to see them on a celebrity or two somewhere down the road).

Four Looks We Loved:
Designer: Nanette Lepore

Why We Loved It: This interesting frock mixes elements of sexy, simple and utilitarian in equal measures to great success. The draped fabric looks terribly forgiving and the collarbone trifecta of puffed sleeve, mock turtle and sleeveless are just complicated enough to work and not be too distracting.

Celebrity Who Might Wear It: Angela Simmons would love the quirky off-the-shoulder detail of this chic dress.



Designer: Tracy Reese

Why We Loved It: Sexy, simple with a little umph in the form of a va-va-voom pattern. It's the kind of dress that can feel very femme fetale or be easily downplayed.

Celebrity Who Might Wear It: Can't you picture Michelle Obama in this? Sans the bicep-length gloves, though.

Designer: Proenza Schouler

Why We Loved It: Maybe it's the memories of holiday taffeta (or holiday curtains) that this frock conjures, but it stirs us deep inside -- in a good way. We're crazy for a neatly patterned dress with little extras (coming here in the form of the mock turtle and off-the-shoulder magic).

Celebrity Who Might Wear It: Zoe Saldana, in all her elegant legginess, would snatch this up.

Designer: Anna Sui

Why We Loved It: Besides being incredibly wearable and flattering in color and shape (a slightly fitted waist with a roomy hip/thigh region), it's the type of dress that's versatile enough for the office, after-work shindig or casual weekend.

Celebrity Who Might Wear It: Joy Bryant's simple, chic and slightly bohemian style will be all over this.


Four Looks We Had No Love For:


Designer: Betsey Johnson

Why It Gets No Love: We really wanted to like this campy ensemble as much as we liked the rest of B.J.'s colorful, crunktastical collection, but the confusing influences (menswear, burlesque, Western) and frumpy fit of the jacket didn't satisfy.

Celebrity Who Might Wear It: Solange would love this, since she's been known to wear wonky hats, fancy hand-wear and short pleats.

Designer: Charlotte Ronson

Why It Gets No Love: Grungy and almost distractedly layered, the individual pieces of this get-up are fine; it's the combo that poses a problem. An awkward-fitting jacket and a dress that gathers in the wrong places won't do anyone's figure justice.

Celebrity Who Might Wear It: Zoe Kravitz, queen of all fashion that is moody, layered and I-don't-care-I'm-still-fabulous strange.

Designer: Thakoon

Why It Gets No Love: Incongruent is how we'd describe this look. While we liked individual elements, like the fall of the blouse and the belt detail, the colors, fit and Davy Crockett-ness of it all warranted a big fail from us.

Celebrity Who Might Wear Itt: Fur-lined hood, sheer blouse and skin-tight pants? That's Kelis' spot right there.


Designer: L.A.M.B.

Why It Gets No Love: Only offering slightly more coverage than a full body stocking, it's bound to show off everything every woman wants to hide. Plus the mock turtle/zipper down the front/all-over rouching isn't doing anything for us.

Celebrity Who Might Wear It: We hear Amber Rose already ordered five.

Celebrity stylist June Ambrose is responsible for the A-List looks of stars such as Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z and Mariah Carey, to name a few. Ambrose has her finger on the pulse of emerging trends from around the world. Although winter we're still in the midst of winter for a few more weeks, fashion-savvy women are anxious for spring.
Ambrose shared some inside scoop with Black Voices on what her favorite trends for spring are and where we'll be able to get runway looks for less.

Washed Denim is one of the most popular and one of the easiest trends to replicate. Everyone from Gap, ZARA, Forever 21, and H&M has created versatile looks based on this trend. The washed-denim look encompasses everything from vests, shirts, jeans, skirts, jackets etc. The key aspect that sets the washed-denim trend apart from others is that you might already have a pair of old jean that you thought were too faded or worn lying around. Ambrose told us it's time to dig into the crevices of your closet and bring out your "old" jeans. The washed out, bleached, frayed and faded looks are in high demand.

"Spring is definitely about the grungy and worn denim look," she said.


The Tomboy - This trend allows women to dibble and dabble in androgyny and have lots of fun with their wardrobe. For those of us who are not into the five-inch heels and skinny jeans, this is a look that is sexy but practical at the same time.
"I'm happy about this look because it's relaxed, comfortable and has become the new chic," Ambrose said. "It leaves a lot of room for girls to be demurely sexy."

This look can be translated in many different ways to make some fantastic outfits. The over-sized cardigan, unique bow-ties made out of unique fabrics, and boyfriend jeans are just a few items that will give you the opportunity to turn yourself into a sexy tomboy.



Graphic prints: Graphic Prints need little or no accessories at al,l because the focus of the outfit is placed solely on the bold print. Many women shy from wearing graphic prints because they believe their bodies are not right to pull off this look. Our expert stylist gives advice on how every body shape can embrace the graphic print.

"If you're on the curvier side you want to choose a graphic print item that has a low plunging neck-line," Ambrose said, "because you don't want to look like you've been swallowed up by the print."

Another great tip that Ambrose shared for curvy ladies who want to rock this trend is to break up the graphic print by pairing it with a solid colored item. If you are wearing a graphic print dress throw on a pair solid colored shoes or a light weight solid cropped sweater. It's important to remember that these graphic prints will be just enough; so no need to wear heavy jewelry.


Extreme Jewelry- Excessive, chunky jewelry is a sexy statement for spring. According to Ambrose, all you need is to adorn yourself with big jewelry and a V-neck tee shirt and you'll be in style for spring and summer as well.

"This trend is really fun because you can find so many great pieces at flea-markets and retailers like Forever 21, Banana Republic, and Club Monaco. Big statement jewels can also be worn as wonderful day to night pieces, depending on the shine of the jewelry. June says it best: " Spring is all about accessorizing and punctuation, punctuation, punctuation!"


80's Biker Chic- Invest in that leather jacket, because it will go a long way from day to night. These are wise words of advice from Ambrose to help you accomplish this trend that superstars like Rihanna and Beyonce have already been spotted wearing.

"Don't go crazy on the leather and wear it from head to toe," Ambrose warned. She advises leather lovers to break up the leather look to give it a soft and sleek appeal.

"You don't want to go all the way with this trend," she said. "If you want to wear biker boots , a contrasting compliment would be to wear them with a sundress".

Designer Tracy Reese truly brought out the best for her latest fall 2010 collection.

In addition to securing hot models such as Georgie Badiel, Gracie Carvalho, Chrishelle Stubbs and Ariel Meredith, Reese presented an alluringly chic collection that referenced her signature florals while adding an exciting edge.

Models with loose, curly ponytails, dark sunglasses, and confident swaggers stomped down the runway next to prim and proper princesses in airy floral frocks, ruffled schoolgirl cardigans and tweed jackets.

Reese's new style forecast called for sexy lace, racy high hemlines and even slim-cut pants.

With an eye toward expansion, Reese even threw in quite a few accessories, capitalizing on her design skills with extra-large scarves, diva-esque fingerless elbow-length gloves and fur arm warmers.

The collection had a good-girl-gone-glam feel.

Star power has been a little dim this New York Fashion Week.
Instead of courting celebrities with freebies, most designers are cutting budgets and pouring more money into their collections. Still, a few noteworthy fashion faithful celebrities have foregone the perks to decorate the front rows of select shows:

Amber Rose was spotted at Christian Siriano's runway show in a blue Siriano dress and shoes from his Payless collection. Though her stylist and boyfriend Kanye West was nowhere to be found, Amber still managed to dress herself beautifully, achieving an edgy aura without going over the top.

Keke Palmer has been making her rounds at BCBG, Alice + Olivia and more, but she definitely dazzled in a Rachel Roy dress for the designer's Valentine's Day show.
Solange Knowles showed off her quirky style at Charlotte Ronson's show in a bold patterned jacket, ethnic print hat, flouncy skirt and booties.

Reality TV darlings Angela and Diggy Simmons went for all black for the Charlotte Ronson show, wearing outfits that highlighted their maturing fashion style and personalities.

And Chris Brown attended the Buckler men's show in slick black and sunglasses.

Black beauty was celebrated for the third season at the ARISE African Collective Part III. ARISE is the first global style and culture magazine to celebrate African achievement in fashion and arts. This season, they selected South African designers Jacques Van Der Watt and Danica Lepen for Black Coffee, Nigerian designer Deola Sagoe and Tanzanian designer Anisa Mpungwe for Loin Cloth & Ashes, who presented their collections to a packed house at the main tent at Bryant Park in New York City. Show producer Jan Malan transformed the tent into a virtual African day-and-night landscape with elaborate staging inspired by award-winning poet Ben Okri. Black Voices was there for the gorgeous show and backstage excitement.

"I'm always excited to walk in ARISE because I've been doing it for the last three seasons, and it's great to come together with all top faces in fashion right now," said supermodel in the making Chanel Iman. Backstage at the show, she dished that she has to have her cell phone, iPod and Rose Bed lip gloss to get her through fashion week.

We ran into one of our favorite Dominican beauties, Arlenis Sosa, who shared the reasons she loves walking in ARISE. "What I love about ARISE is that it highlights the beauty of so many different brown skin tones. Women everywhere can see someone who looks like them on the runway, and that's inspiring."

We chatted with the always sweet Sessilee Lopez, a haute young American girl, who is currently ranked the #13 model in fashion, about fashion week moving to Lincoln Center. "It's sad to leave the tents, but it's a new beginning. I'm excited since I live in Harlem that everyone is heading Uptown!"

Taking a break from the catwalk, supermodel Veronica Webb was backstage interviewing designers for a program she is hosting for Fashion Week TV.

"Africa is an emerging market and the basis of so much style and influence on American life," Webb said of the significance of ARISE at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. "If you think about it, soul music, rock and roll, hip-hop, Motown in the '70s...it's really nice to go back to the mother ship and have this influence here in New York to give us more strength and more roots."

Nduka Obaigbena, chairman and CEO of Leaders & Co., parent company to London-based ARISE and Nigeria's best-selling newspaper THISDAY said that the ARISE runway show will create and promote positive images to its global readership and even encourage investment in African nations.

"Our tomorrow is bright," he said. "Showing for the third consecutive season at Bryant Park and in a larger venue is a testament to the continued success of our initiatives. I look forward to what is sure to be an amazing usage of African visual aesthetics recreated on the catwalk."

BLACK COFFEE
The first designer down the catwalk was Black Coffee, the 2009 winner of the Mercedes-Benz Award for Fashion. This design duo is headed up by Danica Lepen and Jacques van der Watt, a graduate of Leggatts Design Academy in Johannesburg, who started the line in 1998 while South Africa was searching for a new identity. The pair sent down the catwalk oversize coats with feminine details in muted hues like peach and camel.

LOIN CLOTH AND ASHES
With celebrity fans like Oprah Winfrey and Will Smith, Tanzanian-born designer Anisa Mpungwe has quickly made a name for herself. Mpungwe launched her label Loin Cloth and Ashes in August 2008 and crafts up designs that stay true to an aesthetic that has a definitive African feel. Her collections are defined by touches of woven fabrics and accessories like cowries, crystals, and beads. For fall/winter 2010, Mpungwe was inspired by an origami bird motif, and her collection stood out like a piece of art. Bib like blue necklaces adorned the models' necks, giving a pop of contrast against Mpungwe's monochromatic palette of urban blacks and grays.
DEOLA SAGOE
The most daring and edgy collection of the evening was by Nigerian designer Deola Sagoe, who was a crowd favorite of the night. Known for creating fashions with hidden detailing, Sagoe made a strong statement on the runway showing pieces with sculpted architectural shapes. We loved the structured shoulders on the jackets and mini-dresses, and her use of metallic and crushed velvet fabrics that reflected light beautifully down the runway.


In addition to the New York show, ARISE magazine will present during Paris Fashion Week on March 5 and host a Fashion Rocks! event in Johannesburg on July 9.
